Michelin/HoDy Yamaha/Coors Light/Amil TsubakilFox/Z Leathers-sponsored FZR600 was able to pull away from the rest of the field with high I:36 lap times. Sam McDonald and Gene Burcham quickly put their Yarnahas in second and third place respectively, pulling away from a field full of 750cc machines. RenaeD backed o£( the torrid pace on the last couple of laps, and still managed to cross the finish line 15 seconds ahead of McDonald. RenlZeU again beat McDonald by 15 seconds in the C Superbike race, and then beat Matthew Macheca in A Superbike. In D Superbike, Renaell faced sti£( competition frnm Jim Still. Only three bike lenj:ths separated the twO after four laps of racmg, but eventually RenlZell wore Still down. The margin between the two at the checkered Oag was five seconds. , Rentzell and Kurt Hall headed into tum one jockeying for position in the Formula USA race. Hall gave no quarter and held the lead coming out of the tum. Renaell never made it through the next tum. An accidental downshilt caused his bike to get sideways, then o Carter burns 'em at Camp Shelby Enduro By Jonny and Karen Kemp HATTIESBURG, MS, APR. 30 uzuki-mounted Landon Carter scored an amazing 10 points to take the overall victory in the fourth round of the Southern Enduro Riders Association Series at Hattiesburg. The 250cc A class rider, Carter, who has been a threat all year, used the adverse course conditions to his advantage en route to his first SERA overall winMany of the other competitors had serious problems due to the torrential rains the night before. These rains washed away course markers and caused many of the low spots to become quagmires. Fortunately, the sun came out early unday morning to dry things up a bit. The riders meeting and start of the evem was delayed as the official frantically rerouted and rescheduled the course the best they could, which turned out to be a job well done. Open A class action was hot and heavy as Kevin Hutchinson took the win followed closely by his good friend David Bragg, who was nding a KTM. Both riders dropped 15 points with 55 tiebreaker seconds deciding the win. Hutcltinson, who rode a Husky Au[omatic said of Bragg, "His biggest problem is his clutch. You see, he ha one, I don't". Kawasaki-mounted Manny Garza took the AA class win with an excellent score of 15 ahead of Suzuki rider Tommy Cousins who fell prey to one of the many mud bog monsters. Cousins was headed for the overall win until his misfortune. In Senior A class action it was Fia Miller carding a 28-point score ahead of second place Husky rider Steve Hudson. Miller made a few errors aboard his Kawasaki, including burn· ing a check, bur was still able to escape with the win. Honda mounted Kim Berthelot took the Women's class win- Berthelot commented, "I had a good ride, only fallinR down once today. 1 think ope thing that helped was my throttle got stuck in the fust haH of the run, so I couldn't slow down".
