in the winner's circle, are sponsored
by Gibsonia Cycle, Penn State Cycle,
Cycle Shock, WD-40 and Pennzoil.
Behind the third-place finishers
came Fastline, South Florida Racing, Johnson & Woods and TeaJJ;l
Florida, followed by eighth-overall
and GTU winners Roswell Honda.
Meanwhile, Quarterley had passed
Farmer and the Floridian was giving
it all he had lO stay with the swift
New Englander. The Dutchman
crew's cries of "Quarterley's pulling
away" foreshadowed the battle's
eventual outcome, and although
Farmer gave it all he had, the
Suzuki's tires had nothing left lO
give. Farroer settled for second, still
within sight of the leader.
evenheless, Andrew was pleased
with Hyper-Cycle's performance:
"Jt's very satisfying for us. This is
the best we've ever done at this
track." Hyper-Cycle is sponsored by
EBC, Shoei, Yoshimura, Motul,
Performance Machine, Michelin,
Bates, Sudco, REC, Fox and Barnett.
Dutchman team captain Dave
Schlosser dedicated the win to the
hurting Rentzell. "This race is for
Kevin," he said. "He carried this
team last year." Dutchman Racing
is sponsored by Fox, Sudco,
Michelin, Mikuni, PBI, Tsubaki,
EBC, Fast By Ferracci and Pennzoil
and Schlosser also gave special
thanks to Kelvin Franks.
Dutchman relief rider Harth gave
all the credit lO the crew: "I just ran
real consistent, they did all the work.
I appreciate them asking me to ride."
"My knee was really hurting in the
end. Dr. Kieffer taped it up and I
want lO thank him for that," said
Quarterley, who added, 'Tdjustlike
to see it happen like this all year long
so we can win the championship."
"I have to go spend some time with
Dr. Kieffer to see if he can put
another racer back together," said
Rentzell, who expects to be out of
action for a few months.
The race for second place in the
GTU ranks came down to the last
half-hour, when Toomer's chances
were thwarted when they overfilled
the gas tank during their final pit
stop and the bike took 40 seconds
to restart. Cycle Unlimited Racing
also experienced diilicul ties in the
late stages, coasting into the pits out
of gas with just 15 minutes remaining. The miscues cost both teams
valuable time, allowing rivals Longevity Moore lO put a lock on the
runner-up position.
Roswell Honda cruised home first,
completing 109 laps, followed by
Longevity Moore, Toomer and Cycle
Unlimited, all three a lap behind the
winners with 108. Lofgren Racing
came home fifth with 107 laps.
"There was a scoring error and we
had lO pass the second-place guys
twice," said Roos in the GTU
winner's circle. "We were going to
protest but I guess there's no point
now." Roswell Honda Racing is
sponsored by Dunlop, Barnett, Howell Gas, Arai, NGK, DD and MolO
Liberty.
