Andy Tresser (10V) passed Speedy Kell (2W) and Kris Kiser early in the Junior main and pulled away for the win. Scott Tyler (68) took the Open Expert class victory by winning both motos during the motocross portion of the TT weekend. Motocross 18 After lapping up to third in the first 250cc Intermediate class moto and almost that in the second, Butch mith, riding exhibition, pulled me killer holeshot to lead Corey Barton, Scott Tyler and Tony Graves in the first 250cc Expert moto. As they launched down the deep whoops of the dreaded Sandhill, l4-year-old Smith continued to hold the lead with Barton, Hall, Graves, Lowell Thomson and Bob Hannah roosting behind. Tyler had fallen to sixth. Larry Jackson hammered up from 13th. As Barton began to battle with Smith, Hannah used his prowess to jet past Thomson and Graves into fourth behind Hall. Barton went down, leaving Smith far out in front, as Hannah ripped by Hall down the. Sandhill to take over second. Thomson put it to Graves as Jackson had carried his charge ahead of Derrick Personette to dice with Tyler for sixth. Within several laps Hannah pulled up to Smith and made the _ pass. The moto ended with Hannah far out in front of Smith, Hall, Thomson and Graves. Jackson managed to slip by Tyler for fifth. In second moto action, Barton managed a daring pass over Graves on the doubles to take the lead, then Hannah soon carved around Graves and pressured Barton. Hannah put the move to Barton, but Barton retaliated again with a pass over the doubles. The order read Barton, Hannah, Graves, Thomson, Tyler, Mark Olberdig and Mark Hall. Thomson slung his Suzuki past Graves, who quickly stuffed him to retain third. Again Thomson attacked, this time getting both Graves and Barton, who Hannah had left behind. Hall wicked it up to pass Barton and move into third. By late in the moto, Hannah opened up a large lead on Thomson, Hall and Graves, who was now threatened by Larry Jackson on his move up from last place. Hannah took the overall, followed by Thomson, Hall, Graves and Jackson. Scott Goggles/O'NeaIlLRD/ Maxima/Screwy De igns/Pro Circuit/White Bros.-sponsored Tony Graves aced both l25cc Expert motos with Jackson unable to close the gap in either moLO. Darren Rogers claimed third overall. Scott Tyler claimed both Open Expert motos over Bradly Bolton and Rich Mecier, while Dan Lees wound up with the overall Vet Expert win with a strong performance in a tumultuous second moLO. Lees worked his way up from fifth to take the win over Rick Holmes. Firstmoto victor Bob Krah broke a chain in the second moto, putting him out of contention. Western Regional TT Steve Aseltine read the green light perfectly for the 20-lap 600cc Expert main, sliding through turn one in first ahead of Chris Carr, Mickey Fay, Ricky Graham and Troy Norris. Aseltine held the lead until Carr snatched it away on the third lap and the pair battled it out until the sixth lap. As they entered tum one, Aseltine's throttle hung up and he bailed heavily in the slick, scattery dirt on the outside. After examination by·the medics, Aseltine still desired to race, so the race was restarted with riders at the fifth lap position and Aseltine in dead last. Carr resumed his lead, pulling a couple seconds on Steve Eklund, Graham, Aaron Hill, Norris, Daniel McDonnell, Randy Roose and Fay. Through the dust, Aseltine slashed by Sal Hoffman, Paul Iwanaga and Bobby McDowell into ninth by the end of the sixth lap. Aseltine latched onto Fay and quickly sliced underneath as Carr, Eklund and Graham each had a couple seconds on each other, and a couple seconds on the pack led by Hill. Hill was .facing tremendous pressure from WoodRotax-mounted Norris and Roose. Over the next several laps Aseltine continued his daring passes, overtaking Norris, Roose and Hill to break free from the pack. Carr maintained his blistering pace in the lead, with Eklund and Graham unable to hunt him down. However, with only five laps left, Aseltine was on the move and was soon breathing down Graham's neck. With the crowd on its feet, Aseltine pulled off another incredible pass, squeezing by Graham just before the sweeper at the end of the chicane. With only two laps to go, it seemed that chances were slim he would catch the distant Eklund or Carr. However, as Carr wheelied in victory across the finish line, Eklund had seized up in the bottom of the sweeper, allowing Aseltine to narrowly beat Graham by scant feet and complete his charge from last to second. Hill finished tight in fourth as McDonnell also managed a lastlap pass to edge out Norris and Roose. Fay finished up in eighth followed by Harsha, Iwanaga and Hoffman. An elated Carr remarked after the race, "It's good to' come and win the first time out. I've heard a lot of good things about this track and I'm glad to find that they were true." Arai/ABC Body Shop/Woods Racing/Kendall Oil/Sportz Fuell Yoko Racewear/HRD Horsepower/ Town and Country Limousines/S&J Machine's Andy Tresser impressively won the 600cc Junior RegIonal main by passing Kell and Kiser early in the 15-lap race and opening up a strong lead. Tresser, Kiser, Kell and Jeff Russell puHed away from the pack in the course of the race with each interspaced by a couple of seconds. Danny Stanley and Steve Rasmussen fought fiercely over fifth in the later stages of the race. Stanley eventuaHy hammered into fifth, then slipped underneath Russell to grab fourth, while Jamie Aguilar came up short on seventh position to Joe Kopp. Bell/AXO/Dan Huskey/Huskey Auto Electric's Joel Huskey demonstrated his holeshot ability and established himself out in front of the 500cc Pro-Am main. Huskey quickly pulled out a lead on Randy Bereman, Paul Polhemus, Jeff Kirkland and Troy Rose. Kirkland faded back to eventually finish seventh as Rose took over fourth on the fifth lap. Polhemus slammed by Bereman to pursue Huskey, while Rose came under pressure from Tim Selby. Huskey took the checkers first, with Polhemus charging hard in second only lengths behind. Selby's late-race pass carried him past Rose into fourth behind Randy Bereman. Steve Liberty rode through the dust for sixth in front of Kirkland, Jeff Annen, David Bachmeier, Thomas Sherman, Pat Stults and Tom Shivers. _ Results ST OPEN EX: 1. Steve Aseltine (H-D): 2.
