Meanwhile, Quarterley had passed Farmer and the Floridian was giving it all he had lO stay with the swift New Englander. The Dutchman crew's cries of "Quarterley's pulling away" foreshadowed the battle's eventual outcome, and although Farmer gave it all he had, the Suzuki's tires had nothing left lO give. Dr. Kieffer taped it up and I want lO thank him for that," said Quarterley, who added, 'Tdjustlike to see it happen like this all year long so we can win the championship." "I have to go spend some time with Dr. Kieffer to see if he can put another racer back together," said Rentzell, who expects to be out of action for a few months. The race for second place in the GTU ranks came down to the last half-hour, when Toomer's chances were thwarted when they overfilled the gas tank during their final pit stop and the bike took 40 seconds to restart. Cycle Unlimited Racing also experienced diilicul ties in the late stages, coasting into the pits out of gas with just 15 minutes remaining. The miscues cost both teams valuable time, allowing rivals Longevity Moore lO put a lock on the runner-up position. Roswell Honda cruised home first, completing 109 laps, followed by Longevity Moore, Toomer and Cycle Unlimited, all three a lap behind the winners with 108. Lofgren Racing came home fifth with 107 laps. "There was a scoring error and we had lO pass the second-place guys twice," said Roos in the GTU winner's circle.
