We're Human T·oo won the Middleweight Production class. crashed the Struther's Suzuki entry at the dangerous turn 12 and Bullock went through the hay bales and hit the guardrail that lines the outside of the turn, breaking his leg. The red flag came out again due to the dangerous position of Bullock's crash. This negated any advantage the Humans might have had and Team Suzuki's crew was able to make repairs on their machine without losing the lead. Two laps after the second restart, Smith pulled the Team Suzuki machine in with a damaged steering damper. The crew made quick repairs and the team still had a 57second lead on the Humans. But two laps more and Team Suzuki was out of the race. Smith was going har~ trying to keep the Humans from cutting into their lead. One rider who was behind Smith and saw the crash, said that Smith simply got on the gas too early while exiting a turn. Once back in the pits, Smith was given a stern lecture from team owner John Ulrich. Ulrich later admitted that even with the mistakes, this year's team is one of the best he's had. Now the Human Race Team was all alone in the lead, and unless something drastic happened, no one would catch them. Attention turned to that tightly contested second place fight. With an hour to go, only 12 seconds separated second place Raw Racing from fourth place E&H Racing. Royale Racing was sandwiched in third. Raw pitted to put fast man Rentzell on and both Royale and E&H passed Raw while they were in the pits. Rentzell gave chase out Royale's Doug Henry was too' far out front and took second and first in Heavyweight Production. .Rentzell also couldn't gain on E&H Racing's Bob Sandy. E&H crossed the finish line 15 seconds ahead of Lightwei~ht class winner Raw to take thud overall and first in Heavyweight Production. It was quite a successful day for the Humans. Not only did they win the race, their sister team, Widman H-D & Suzukil Arai/Fox Racing USA/Metzeler-sponsored We're Human Too, won the Mediumweight Production class and finished seventh overall. It was the third straight class victory for the Cincinnati-based team that features team captain Jim Still, Bruce Baldus and Bobby Von Nessen as riders. Local Squids finished sixth overall, ahead of We're Human Too, and second in the Lightweight class. • Results a/A: I. The Human Race Team (Yam); 2. Royale Racing (Varni; 3. E&H Racing (Suz); 4.
