The 600cc and 750cc Superspon races were a repeat of the LJ OOcc race with RusseU winning by eight seconds over James on the Suzuki Katana, and four seconds on the GSXR750. Thisbrougbt RusseU'sSuzuki Cup winning streak to fifteen race wins. Russell is sponsored by Yoshimura, Michelin, EBC Brakes, The Wax Shop, AGV Helmets and hillips 66. Another Georgian, Joe Hutcheson, also proved that newer is not always better by coming to the line on a 1983 Honda IT500 scot and defeating a field of 14 riders, most on the newer, £aster 1989 Yamaha FZR400s, in the D Superbike class, thus showing that in this case, talent and ability reign over horsepower. Hutcheson holds the WERA N,tional title in the Clubman class, and won thill race as well on his Super Singles/Star Racing-sponsored Honda. One potential problem area was tum eight. If lhere was a crash in this lurn, the race would have 10 be slOpped as there is nowhere to get lout of the line of traffic. f£ a rider was waiting in the race to pass 10 the lead on the last lap, Lhe .ran lhe risk of this situation and the race lbeing called complete and scored from the previous lap (providing the race was al least half-way completed). This siluation did occur in the B Production Novice race, much to the dismay of Jamie While. While got his Suzuki GSXR750 o££ lhe line firs I and started pulling out a lead. Mississippi's Don Taylor, meanwhile, was working his Yamaha FZR750 through traffic and caught up 10 White by the third lap. The two diced for the lead for lwo laps before Taylor finally dove to the inside of While in lurn eigbton lapsix. White ran Taylor down and repassed him for lhe lead after the start/finish line, but a crash in tum eight broughl out the red £lag, resulting in the race being called complele and the win going 10 Taylor. Taylor went on 10 also win the A Superslock Novice class on his Metzelershod Yamaha. Results A S/SPRT EX: 1. Scott Russell (SUI); 2. Jamie James 3. Britt Turkington (SUl). B S/SPRT: 1. In the first molO M.S. Racing/Smith/Bellsponsored Grayson Hart look the early lead with Bell, Mikes Suzuki's Steve Smith, Kawasaki rider Don Boes£lug and Darren Rogers in tow. Hart kept the lead for the first three laps until he slid out, handing the lead to Bell who was close behind. Bell took full advantage of Han's mistake as did the rest of the field and cruised on 10 the first moto win. Smith rode to second while BoesOug, Rogers and a recovering Hart rounded oul the top five. ' The second round found Hart once again around the first corner in the lead, but this time Bell moved around him during lap one and never looked back to take his second win of the evening and the overall. Hart and Rogers had a barn-burner of a race for six laps with Rogers finally moving by for second place on the white £lag lap and setting his sights on Bel!. Rogers' time ran out though and his gallant e££on 10 try and catch Bell fell short and he look second. Hart, Smith and Boes£lug were third through fifth. Beaverton Yamaha's Shad Sharp was the class of the field in both the 80 and l25cc BeRinner classes. In the 80cc class Sharp followed Travis Webber on the holeshot with Sharp scooting by Webher and taking the win. Webber meanwhile was second with Josh True and Shawn Sowles third and fourth. The second moto found Sharp out front at the start but Kawasaki mounted Sowles was right behind and after two laps took over the number one spot and headed for the checkers. Sharp held on for second and took the overall via his 1·2 tally. Sowles was second with True, GETON ABMW AND TAKEOFF UPTO 51,000: & ~ . " IlAYIR IIOTOIICYCI.I .....
