Series leader Harvey Whitaker maintained the top spot in the class ranlcings with a fourth-place finish. Honda rider Robert Bennett split the difference between Howser and Whitaker with a third place showing. The closely contested Senior A division saw the points battle tighten up as Joe Lojak moved into a tie for second with his Fireball victory. Lojak now holds 92 points to match Yamaha rider Joseph Hull, fourth on the day at Tarentum. Class leader Paul Michels placed second on his ATK, giving him· a four race total of 74. Third-place finisher Albert Swager also moved up with his second top three ride in as many rounds. The last lap for the leaders was rather uneventful. When Lojak carne to the final climb a huge partisan crowd greeted him with hoots and hollers and then stood back as he attacked the bottleneck. McSwain came into the third section five minutes later and' also made the climb 'without much difficulty, though the last 20 feet were accomp.. lished pushing alongside the bike. Roach was next, halE a minute up on Brown, who had gone past Hyde during the KTM rider's aforementioned gas stop. Brown hit a trafficfilled line and was forced to push almost the whole way, losing the number four overall position to Hyde in the process. At the checkered flag Lojak was still comfortably ahead of Open A winner McSwain with Roach four more minutes back. Hyde was just a dozen or so seconds behind, again with no idea that Roach's Kawasaki was just ahead. Brown was a commendable fifth. . In the class categories McSwain led Coombs in the Open A tally with Rodgers claiming the third position. Yamaha YZ490 rider Tim Shephard was next, followed by Husky pilot John Vincent. North Carolina's Farrell Smith captured his third Open B win of the series. The Yamaha rider bettered Honda competitors Michael Cornett and John Gourley in extending his series points lead. Series secondplace rider Kevin Hagedorn was fifth behind Robert McClelland. In the 67 rider 250cc B division Mark Mehuron bettered Ronald Palermo to tighten up their battle for the top class spot. Harold Nicholson was third with Ray Owens and first and second round winner Gallie Ward following. • Results 0/A: 1. Ed Lojak (Vam). OPEN A: 1. Steve McSwain (Han); 2. Tim Coombs (Han); 3. Keith E.
