If you're headed to Road Atlanta for the May 7 round of the AMA National Championship Road Race Series you might want to stop by Pro Line Honda-Kawaseki on your way to the race. The Honda·Sport Touring Association will be hosting a pre-race continental breakfast at Pro Line from 9 to 11 a.m. The shop is located at Gwinnett Mall, 1-86 exit #40, approximately one-half hour south of the track. For more informa- Former AMA Formula One Champion Randy Renfrow tested the Commonwealth Honda at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, California, on Friday, April 14. According to owner/ builder Martin Adams, Renfrow circulated the 2.5-mile, nine-tum, high-desert circuit in sub-I :30 lap times, and described the RS750 dirt track-powered machine as the besthandling four-stroke he'd ever ridden. Renfrow will race the bike in the remaining rounds of the AMA The 8th Annual British/European Bike-In, a combination show and swap meet that used to be held at Coffeyville, Kansas, will take place in Wichita, Kansas, June 23-25. The '89 Six Days of Michigan, which is billed by the organizing club as being "the ultimate trail ride," will take place August 1 318. Presented by the Cycle Conservation Club (CCC) of Michigan, the entry fee is $138 (participants must be CCC members; membership is $12 per year). Camping with showers and hookups is available and participants gear will be moved from campground to campground via equipment trucks. Suzuki wilI pay Suzuki Cup points and money at two newly scheduled events at the same facility on April 29-30 and May 1314. Wagoner Cycle Works of Tucker, Georgia, and the Georgia BMW Owners Club will host the 7th Annual BMW Reunion and Campout at Laggett's Mountain View Campground on Geor,gia Rt. 19, two miles north of Turner's Comer, over the September 1517 weekend. The gathering is open to all BMW riders and guests and the fee is $19 per person via advance registration (by September 10), or $21 at the gate. Children under 10 pay half the adult fee. At this time last year it appeared Papa was about to attend the lastever San Jose Mile, but delays in paving the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds oval in northern California mean Papa and other dirt track fans win be heading there on May 21. The San Jose Mile round of the Camel Pro Series offers competitors a $42,000 purse, of which $27,085 is paid out in the final, $3115 in the Last Chance Qualifier, $2000 in a Junior class support race, $100 to the fastest qualifier, $100 each to 22 riders who qualify for the program but do not make the final or LeQ, $20 per lap to the leading rider in the 25-lap final, and a $350 Performance Incentive Award to each of the 20 top-ranked pre-entered riders based on '88 AMA Grand National Dirt Track Series point standings. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports that at the end of March it had a record 159,614 members, an increase of 3057 over the previous month and 16,313 mora than one year ago. California boasts the most AMA members, 23,463, while Pennsylvania ranks second with 12,439, Ohio third with 11,564, Illinois fourth with 10,667 and New York fifth with 10,292. Legislation sponsored by Texas Senator Ted Lyon (D-Rockwall) is now one step away from becoming a law that would require all motorcyclists in Texas to wear helmets. SB41 reached Governor William P. Clements, Jr. on April 17 and the governor will have 10 days to either sign it into law, let it pass without his signature or veto the bill. Round two of the AHRMA Historic Cup Series will take place at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, on Sunday, May 7, in conjunction with the AMA National Championship Road Race Series meat. Registration, tech inspection and practice for the vintage bikes will take place on Saturday, May 6. Sunday's races will feature all AHRMA classes combined into three races. Horst Lietner, the Austrian engineer who founded the motorcycle company ATK in Laguna Beach, California, is no longer involved with the business end of the company, according to reliable sources. Ken Wilkes has taken control of the business and has moved the corporation to the City of Commerce, California. Both Lietner and Wilkes refuse to comment on the change of ownership, but Wilkes says he will make an official statement soon. Don Brown, the owner of the Glen Helen OHV Park in San Bernardino, California, has officially purchased Inland Motor Speedway. Speedway racing at Glen Helen will resume May 17, and will run every Thursday night throughout the summer.
