cAgOJOlllOIl 81llehphlgeg CPhegelll: Derrick Paiement was the overall winner at the Rovers M.e. H&H. '15th. RUNNING GARDENA GOLD CUP 20-LAP HALF-MILE WITH JUNIOR PROGRAM way into the canyon. Luckily, Stearns held his line of travel, l'assing Shuler who was forced to push his bIke up out of the canyon. Stearns had his own exciting downhill when he lost his brake on a "gnarly" downhill, scattering Rover club members who were stationed at the checkpoint at the bottom. He cruised on to a first 25Occ, third place overall finish. Shuler got back on course to claim a well·earned fourth place. Rudder overcame crash·mduced ailments, namely loss of his silencer and his rear brake and a flat tire, to manuever his 250cc to a fifth place overall finish. Steve Kirk Jr. finished his best ride on a' 250cc by coming in sixth overall on his Yamaha. He had flown by Yamaha pilot Randy Moseley when Moseley crashed on a rock climb and lost momentum. Moseley was able to get by Holmes in the cross grain terrain to steal seventh. Holmes happily settled for first Amateur and eighth overall. Next in Ii"" was Honda·mounted Frank Chamberlin. The 250cc Amateur rider said he had a terrible start, but that it kept getting better. faster and faster, until he was "rock dancin' in the rocks." Rounding out the top 10 overall was first Vet rider John Tobin on a Yamaha. He had passed Scott Anderson, also a Vet rider on a 250cc Yamaha, 10 miles into the second loop in a rocky section. Townes took the overall with a convincing second moto victory after placing second in the first moto. In first moto action Todd Bates pulled a clean holeshot but was quickly passed by Denton Yamaha's David Widmer. Bates attempted a quick retaliation but tagged the rear wheel of Widmer's Yamaha and went down in the chicane. Poised to take advantage of Bales' mistake were Danny Townes and Steve Perdue. Townes quickly pulled away from Perdue and challenged Widmer, but Widmer returned the fa vor over the backstraight table-top jump a hall a lap later. The two remained fender to fender for the rest of the race and finished with Widmer on top and Townes and Purdue placing second and third, respectively. In the second moLo Townes put his Kawasaki in front of the pack in the first turn and motored to a convincing win well ahead of the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Widmer and Bates went handlebar to handlebar in their ballle for second Bates finally got the upper hand on lap four, displacing Widmer I * SPRINGSTEEN RESERVED AND GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS ALSO AVAILABlE AT 77ciiC5f~6dS7&"R1Il MAY COMPANY & MUSIC PLUS (2131480-3232 '(7141740-2000 AGAJANIAN ENTERPRISES VERMONT STREET BOX OFFICE 18240 S, VERMONT AVE.
