Lechien (left) and Ward were on the rostrum on both days. Johnny O'Mara (20) rode aggressively in his heats, but bad starts in the mains left him with a pair of sevenths. kept the. crowd entertained with clickers over the jumps. Main Damon Bradshaw dominated the 125cc class with start-to-finish wins in both mains and moved into the Eastern Regional points lead. 14 O'Mara nearly landed on a downed bike after the triples, but both riders made it through to finish 1-2. Ward was third and Matiasevich held on to fourth. Todd DeHoop took fifth and Keith Bowen got the last transfer to the main for finishing sixth in the fastest heat. Heat two was a war between Honda teammates Cooper and George Holland. Cooper clipped Dubach on the first lap and sent the Yamaha rider down as he moved up to second behind Holland. At the halfway point Cooper caught the leader and they spent the rest of the race struggling for supremacy. Over the last two laps they exchanged the lead five times with Cooper taking the narrow victory and earning the Extra Effort $1000 award. Mike Pascarella cruised in third while Larry Ward passed Larry Brooks on the final lap for fourth. After a brief tussle with Dymond on the first lap of heat three, Stanton motored ahead for a five-second win. Dymond and Yamaha teammate Kalos battled for second to the end with Dymond edging Kalos by inches. Mike Fisher claimed fourth over Mike LaRocco' and Ron Tichenor, who had crashed earlier in the race while running third. Semis Tichenor had an easy time winning the first semi after Dubach, who had pulled off the holeshot, was once again the victim of a crash when Fred Andrews ran into him and both went down in the uphill portion of a section of the track that was routed into the stands. Mike Roth was second, nearly halE a lap behind. Storbeck took the lead on the first lap of semi two and never looked back. Michael Craig worked up to second on lap four after a fifth-place start. Last Chance Qualifier Dubach once again got a holeshot, and this time made it up the stands and around the second comer. From then on it was all Dubach and he Dubach got yet another holeshot at the start of the main but was quickly passed by Matiasevich and Holland. As Holland shot to the lead on the first lap Lechien was working up from a dismal start. By lap two Dubach had dropped back to seventh while Holland, Matiasevich and Jeff Ward began to break away from Cooper, Kalos and Stanton. Tichenor, who had started seventh, fell back near last while Lechien had moved up to ninth. Jeff Ward moved to second on lap three, then moved ip and hounded Holland for a few laps before taking the lead on lap six. Stanton had moved up further and after a battle with Cooper took over fourth. Lechien was up to fifth after moving by Kalos, who also fell to Cooper on the same lap. Matiasevich, who had been running third, began to slide back to an eventual lOth as Stanton moved by. "My arms pumped up again, I'm not in shape to go 20 laps in a 250 main," said Matiasevich, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury suffered earlier in the season. Stanton then easily got by Holland, who is also on the mend from shoulder troubles. "I didn't want to take a chance of knocking him down," said Holland. "IE I was going the same speed, I would've raced with him." Lechien dosed in on Holland and passed him at the beginning of lap 12. Ward was riding very smoothly out front and maintained a seven to lQ-second lead on Stanton, while the Honda pilot kept about the same distance on Lechien to set the top three to the finish. There was still some racing going on as Cooper, who had dropped back as low as seventh, began to charge back and got by Holland on lap 16 after a brief battle. Cooper made a late charge at Lechien, but came up short. "I tried to give it one last effort, but it was just good enough to catch him but not pass," said Cooper. Holland finished fifth a short distance behind Cooper. Kalos was. sixth followed by O'Mara, Larry Ward and Mike LaRocco. "I watched a video of last night's race, saw the lines and stayed with them/' said Jeff Ward. "I fell strong the whole time and didn't get tired at all." "I tried to catch him, but I couldn't make up time on the track," said Stanton. "Ward was going fast and riding well. I rode my butt off trying to gain on him and just got tired." Lechien also got tired. "I charged for a while, but burned myself out six or seven laps from the end," he said. 125cc Main Bradshaw grabbed the holeshot when the l25s started and quickly scooted away from the pack. Kiedrowski was at the tail end of a battle between Jeff Glass, Kizzar and Stephenson, and by the time he worked mto second on the fourth lap he was nearly 10 seconds behind. Bradshaw would open the gap slightly before backing of( near the end to finish six seconds ahead of Kiedrowski. "I wanted another good start and buill a good lead so that no·one could catch me," said Bradshaw. '1 tried to get my lines down but couldn't gain at all," said Kiedrowski. "I was going as fast as I could, but we were both staying on the same pace." . After a fall, Stephenson came back to take third, while Greg Bowen held of( the late-race attacks of Dale Spangler to round out the top five•• Results SAlVRDAY 250; 1. Ron L.ec:hien (Kaw); 2.
