It started in 1972 at Indian Dunes on the regu lar motocross track. In those days the one mile course looked ~ ke a Grand Prix to the little mini-riders hence the name "World Mini Grand Prix". The motocross World Championsh ip then moved to Escape Country. Sadd leback Park and finally to its curren t home in Las Vegas in 1985. This is truly a world championship for all racers with classes for Pee Wees , Jr. cycles, Minicycles, the Super Minis ,· 125's, 250's open . Women and Veterans. Beginners thru experts take to the course at Las Vegas International Raceway which is re-conf igured every year to insure fairness . One of the highlights of the Kawasaki World Mini Gran Prix is the "Kawas aki Race of Champion". It features the best Minicylce racers in the world on 15 identically prepared Kawasaki KX 80's from Pomona Kawasaki. They race three motos and alternate bikes each moto . They never race the same bike twice and draw for machines in the opening moto . Its the IROC of motocross and determines the best of the best minicylce racers . It's close ly followed by enthus iasts and the Press alike. Great trophies and prizes awa it those who participate from all the companies . who support this world championsh ip including Scott USA , Tsoabaki, Ohlins Suspension, Pro Circuit, Bel Ray. Dunlop , ceet, Arai Helmet, Noleen Racing , Fox, Boyesen, KS I, Innovation Sports, IRC, Radd Racing , and Donnie Hanse n Motocross Academy. Racers . also receive great factory support and tech nical help from all the peop le at Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki. The newly added women's class for 83 thru 125cc is being l;lreeted with great enthusiasm along with the veterans over 30 class . Some of the veterans were mini racers themse lves and now have young sons filling those mini boots of yesteryear. The 18th annual Kawasaki Wo rld Grand Prix begins on Friday April 14th. In the morning there will be pract ice for all classes . In the afternoon the first half of round one motos will be run. Saturday morning will see the completion of round one. The first half of round two will run Saturday afternoo n and finish Sunday morn ing. Sunday afternoon will play host to the championship rounds, run ofts and climax with the Kawasaki race of cl)am pions. This is the race of races for motocross fans everywhere and Las VegaS is the perfect setting for a world championsh ip.
