Fowler and Chris Young occupied row three with Tallon Voh land and Tyler holding down row four . O nce underway Davis shot out into the earl y lead with Graves, Chris Young, Wynne, Tallon Vohland and Fowler pursuing close behind. Tallon Vohland immediately sta rted to pick up positions and soon took over the number two SIOL Shortly before the completion of lap one Davis lost th e front end of his Yamaha in a turn allowjng Vohland the easy lead. Chris Young was second ahead of Fowler, Vlach and Scott Brown. Holley was sixth. Up front Vohland immediately started to pull awa y as Holley and Manley began slicing th eir wa y through the pack. Both riders started in the back of th e inverted start and had broken into the top five on the third lap. Back in the pack Jeremy McGrath was running seventh and crashed hard before the finish line jump. The crash separated McGrath's right shoulder and put him out for the rest of the night, . Out in first theKawasaki/Yoko/ Bieffe/ Sco ttlRace Tech/FMF/Maxima/RK Chain-backed Voh land had ope ned up a two-second cushion, as H olley quickly fought his way into second. The Yamaha rider was maintaining a consistent pace ahead of Chris Young with Manley moving in close behind. Fowler dropped to fifth . . The last few laps saw the battle between Manley, Young and Holley heat up as Manleybegan pressuring the two riders that stood between him and Vohland. Manley wasted no time in dropping Young to fourth a nd then began working on Holley. The two riders battled for th e remainder of the race with Manley passing Holley short Iy before the checkers. Fowler worked his wa y aro u n d Young for fourth with Vlach taking fifth. " 1 felt really good out there," said Vohland. " 1 got a good amount of sleep last night and I felt all right in practice. I was the first one to do the doubles but I cased out and sprained my ankle. I thought the track was good. I th in k that this was a much better track here than Anaheim .
