.A lex Chellew (31 A) leads 250cc Junior Division Two winner David Zahrt .(3 0 ) and Mickey Crenshaw (644) at the start of the first mota. l Dave Shoemaker finished second in the first 500cc Beginner class mota, then battled his way into the lead and went on to easily win mota two. Kevin Glyer (23N) and Rich Barton battle in division two of the 250cc· Junior class. Glyer finished fourth overall ahead of Barton. Shoemaker shines at Sandhill Ranch By Troy Scott BR ENT WOOD , CA, FEB. 19 Dave Shoemaker took his Yamaha to the overall win in the 500cc Beginner class Sandhill Ranch hosted round seven of the CMC/Dodge Truck Golden State Motocross as National s. Shoemaker chalked I mo u nted Jim Abs hire's 1-2 up a 2-1 tally over Hondaride. A cons istent 4-4 ride was enough for SCOII Mellroy to capture third overall. Another consistent ride by David Zahrt earned him the overall victory in the 250cc Junior Division Two class. Zahrt posted a 2-2 score 10 beat out Yamaha-mounted Robert Drew and his 1-3 performance. Third overall went to another Yamaha rider, Joshua Dunn, for his 4-1 effort. When the gate fell for the first 500cc Beginner class moto Shoemaker nailed the holes hot and charged away with the lead . Trailing him was Abshire, Mellroy, Dea n Kelley and Brian Bonds. Things stayed"in that order unti l the third la p whe n Abshire moved into the lead a nd began 10 put some ti me between him self and Shoemaker as Bonds moved in to thi rd a nd began to pull away fro m MeIlro y. T he to p five riders began to spread o ut a nd stayed in th e same order until the end. Abshire took the win followed by Shoemaker, Bonds, Mellroy and Kelley. Ro und two saw Kell ey grab the holeshot a nd hold the lead until the second la p when he collided with De ren Koz enko a nd bo th fell. Kozenko was up ' first and stayed in the top five. Abshire took over the lead followed by Shoemaker and Mellroy. By the end of the third lap Abshire and Shoemaker were making moves on each other for the lead. .Finally, exiting a turn, Abshire stalled h is bike which let Shoemaker sneak by for the lead. This made the top five Shoemaker fo llowed by Abs hire, Kozenko, Mellroy and Jeff Wright. As the laps ticked away the pack just kep t spreading out and the top riders stayed in the same order 10 the f inish . Shoemaker took all the marbles, whi le Abshire finished the moto second for the same overall. Kozenko was th ird, but his sixth in . th e first mo to wasn 't enough to bea t Mell roy's 4-4 for th ird overa ll. Bonds fin ished th e rn oto six th behind Wri ght to round ou t the top five overall. Ro und one of 250cc Jun ior Divisio n T wo class action saw Yamahamounted Alex Chellew nail dow n a _ so lid holeshot but he was q uickly passed by Zahrt and Drew. Lap two saw Drew move straig ht into t he lead and begin 10 pull away from secondplace Zahrt.
