Stringer began pr essuring Dawson immediately with the two riders stretch ing o ut 10 a lO-second lead by th e hallway poi nt in th e race. Under tremendo us pressure (rom Stringer . Dawson bega n to tire and went down in a Tuned co rner. Dawson had trouble gen ing his Kawasa ki restarted. len in g Allen and Speaks slip by. At the nag it was Stringer . Allen . Mark Thomas had the lead lit moro o ne 01 th e 125cc Beginner race by lap two a nd held it for th e win despi te a last-m in ute cha llenge by seco nd-place fin ish er BesozzL Thomas had a rotten start in mo io two and event uall y d ropped out wh ile Besozzi too k th e immediate lead a nd went a ll the way to wi n the moio a nd the overall. Tony Barranri led lo r the enti re first 125cc Novic e mo ta excep t for o ne short per iod . By lap two , J ason Melto n was in a very tigh t secon d an d pushing Barran ti. Every tim e Mel ton tried to pass, Barranti found just a Iin le mo re spee d and held the lead lor th e entire eig ht lap race. In (he last la p, Meha n held off a ttempti ng a pass until the last turn, then moun ted a cha rge in th e last 20 yards that carried h im to the win by a wh eel len gth.
