Counts further char~ed that som e Forests removed trails by simple clerical mistakes and claim the cost of reprinting the plans and maps would be too much, so the trails are closed due to a mere priority status of expense. In futher public comment, Wade Tuma of the High Sierra MotorCycle Clu b blas ted the Fore'st Service in Lak e Tahoe for o nly coming up wi th four miles of trails in 12 years. Bill BlocKer from the Ca l Poly Pengu in s expressed concern that the Hi Mountain Enduro was sufferin g loss of available land due to "emo tio nal de ci sions in st ead o f fa ctual deciSio ns ." Bob Wick fro m Dirt Alert asked wh y a Green Sticker supp orted , mot ocross tra ck a t Laguna Seca had been bulldozed for o verflo w parki ng for road raci ng events . The Salinas Rambl ers Mot orcycl e Club, Dirt Alert members, wanted the motocross track reestablis hed and reo pened for bo th rac ing a nd practice. Dirt Alert has becom e a sig nificant force in keeping OHV opport unities alive in California. At each meeting Dirt Alert representatives keep th e pressure on. Brian Peters from AMA District 36 noted that the EI Dorado National Forest has wh ittled 200 miles of trails down to only 35 due to wintering deer herds. Peters noted, "Like the tortoise, the deer are affected 4% by O H V, 40% by poachers and hunters. _ In stead of ba nning h unting, th ey ban O H Vs. Too b ad the AMA does n't have the membership tha t the NRA has !" The Sierra National For est and th e Sierra Snowmobile Club in conju nction with the California-Nevada Snowmobile Association hosted a snow tour on Saturday, January 21. The three organizations have worked together to pro vide a fantastic network of trails.Waldheim excla imed, "I can 't believe what a great example of coo pera tion this Forest has, this ' is great!" T he next OHMVR Commission meeting will be March 16-17 in Los Angeles.
