ADEL ANTO, CA, JAN. 21-22 JT R acing's Joe Bon d p roved to be the dominant rider in the Vet J unior class as he led both m otos from start to finish for the overall win in roun d three of the CMC/ Dodge Truck Gol den State Nationals a t Sunrise Valley. Cycle Park. Bond ga ted perfectly in th e 32 first moto to lead R ich ard Yalkin, Gar y Turcotte, Rudy Chavez and Do ug Johnson around the first turn . Bond immed iate ly started to pu ll a way as Turcotte shot past Yalkin for second. Short ly af ter dropping to th ird, Yalkin fell out of th e top five all owing Ch avez the fina l to p three slo t o ver J ohnson a n d Brian Anderson. Back in the pa ck Kirk Benke was ma king u p for a poor star t. After ' ga ting wen out of th e top 10 Be~ke had moved up to seve!1th on the fir st lap and was u p to third o n la p two . Up front Bond o pe ned up a threeseco nd lead over T ur cotte as J ohnson worked hi s way pa st Chavez for fou rth . T he last two la ps sa w a lot of _ positions change. Benke wo rked h is way into the runner-up position: dropping Turcotte to third, and J ohn Layne came o ut of nowhere to take con tro l of fourth. Bond co ntinued to pull away a nd won the moto by more than five seconds. Ben ke was second ahea d of Turcotte, La yne and J ohnson. Round two again saw Bond p ull a clean hol esh ot a nd lead Mike Jen kins, Robert Fields, J ohnso n and Benk e around the first tu rn. Benke quickl y forced hi s way into thi rd as Anderso n bumped himself up to fourth. Fields was fifth over Lay ne . O n lap th ree th e order aga in cha nged as Jenkins fell way ou t of the to p 10, with Lay ne pushi ng hi s way pas t Ben ke for second. Benke soo n los t o ne more position as Anderso n also passe d th e Yamaha rider. H owever, Anderso n's stay in th ird was cut short as the Yama ha rider also fell back . a few pos itio ns. To make things more interesting Michael Gibso n found his way into th e top five on th e fourth la p. The Honda rider, wh o finished seventh in th e firs t rn oto , was sett ing a bli stering pace and ra pid ly worked hi s way to th e front of th e pack. As Bo nd collec ted hi s second easy win over Lay ne, Gibson pounded hi s way into thi rd. Benke fini sh ed fourth a head of Vincent Gonzal ez. In 50cc Pee Wee class action J erry Alema n scored the easy wi n after lead ing every lap in both motos . before taking th e chec kers. T he first mo to saw Aleman holeshot a nd lead Dan il e Blai r, Cor ey Hoe ft, Rya n Tohill a nd J ess Medley. Hoeft soo n worked his way a ro und Blair and set afte r Alema n, but Al em an h ad opened up a com fortable lead. Alema n took th e win with H oeft, Blair, Tohi ll and Medl ey rounding ou t th e top five. Alema n ca me bac k for the fina l' round to show Hoeft, Bla ir, T ohi ll and Bria n Hulsey the way around on lap one. On the second lap Toh ill fell back to sixt h with Medley forc ing hi s way past Hulsey for fou rt h. Up fro nt Ale ma n h ad opened up a su bsta nt ia l lead a nd had la p ped seven of the 10 riders. Aleman again collected the unchallenged wi n and the overall a head of H oeft, Blair and Medley. Dan ny Nelson a nd Michael Brades waged a wa r in the 80cc In termed iat e class . Nelson chased Brad es from th e start of the firs t moto wi th Bradl ey Wa lters, J oe DePatto and Br ian Deegan chasing a short di stance behi nd. On the first two laps Nelson and Brades swa pped th e lead severa l tim es until Brades bobbled , handin g Nelson a small advantage. Back in th e p ack Walters was having a difficu lt time hol ding onto third. On the second lap DeP a tto kn ocked the Kawa sa ki rider to fourth a nd th en Deega n and J esse James forced him to six th . As the battles starte d to cool off Nelson scored the win ahead of Brades, DePa tto, Deega n a nd J ames. . The battle contin ued in round two as Nelson ga ted perfectly wi th Brades second followed by J ames, Deegan a nd Chris Cooksey. On the seco nd " la p Brades managed to di splace Nelson to second and .p ull out a small lead. The Kawasaki pilot was riding a smooth race a nd appeared to have everyt hi ng under con tro l. As th e end of th e race drew near DePa tto sta rted to close in on Cooksey a nd th e two rid ers battled for th e rem ainder of the race before DePatto sn uc k aro und Cooksey for fifth. Brad es met the checkered flag fir st a hea d of Nelson, J ames and Dot y. Mike H im oso n came home th e overa ll winner in division o ne of th e 80cc Beginner clas s. Himoson tied both John Leddy and Brad Schultz with four points for the overall , but hi s 3-1 tall y earn ed him the win. First moto acti on saw Ledd y rocket ou t of the gate with Schultz, Homoso n, Nick Scarmazzo and Daniel Wienrank hot o n hi s tail. Up fro n t the top fou r sped away from the pack as Ji mmy Lauorey fo ugh t with Wienrank for fifth . The pair diced for two laps before La uorey worked his way aro und Wienra nk a nd set a fte r th e leaders. The positions stayed th e sa me until th e last lap before a three-way battle for fo urth eru p ted. Scarmazzo, Erickson a nd Wienra nk sh u ffled a ro und co n tin uosly with Wienrank fin all y earning fourth a head of Erickson a nd Scarmazzo. Sch ul tz captured the wi n wit h Leddy second a nd H imoson third . T he final mot o again saw Leddy blast into th e lead with Himoson, L au ore y, T odd Bi rck el ow a n d J erem y Br own a short di st a n ce beh ind. Brown 's stay in fifth was short as Sch u ltz powered his wa y arou nd th e Suz uki rider and took over the position. From there Sch u ltz gained one more slot as he dropped Birckelow to fifth. T he last pair of passes came on th e last la p as Sch ultz moved into his final position after displ acing La uo rey to fourth. T he lead also cha nged as H im oson man aged to sho ve Ledd y to second.
