Morris, who has participated in th e Sta to n Lorenz-promoted a n n ua l series since it began, was seco nd high p oint score r at Eri e, but he en ded up tied for third with Mark Wyskiel in th e fin al point sta nd in gs. Wyski ~I , th e 1988 seri es Rookie of th e Year, lost a cha nce to !?3:rner third for himself whe n he fi n ished third in th e first of the five hea t races he part icipated in. He salvaged a tie with Morris by fini sh in g seco nd the next time out a nd the n wi n n ing h is next three po int paying events . Morris turned in an all but perfect performance, fini shing seco nd in his first outing and th en winning th e next four races he ran. Morris a nd Wyskiel finished th e ser ies with 70 points ap iece, Chuck Springst een, brother of three-time Grand Nat ional Champi on Jay Springsteen , fin ished fifth ove ra ll in th e series aft er earnin g eig h t points at Erie. Makin g hi s first main event at Erie was La rry Pegr am , th e 1987 AMA Am at eur Ath lete o f th e Year , who turned p rofessional late last year. Peg ram finish ed six th in th e main, beh ind Brow, Morri s, Ingram , Springsteen a nd Scott Stump. Following th e point payin g seri es, th e competitors cross ed Canada's border and ra ced in Copps Center in Hamilton, Ontario. Brow continued hi s hot strea k, winning all five heat races and th e main event. Morris also closed out th e indoor ice racing season with a bang, winning four of hi s h eat ra ces, fini shing second in the first heat, and then copping second in th e main.
