Denny Stephenson (360) and Ch ris Young (23Y) battled in both of the 125cc Pro class motos w ith Young coming out on top for fourth overall. 18 on a tremendous charge and pass Stephenson for second. Shortly after dropping to third Stephenson fell back two more.as both DeHoop and Young a lso shoved their way around ' th e Kawasaki rider. At the finish Emig took the easy win with Craig coming home for a well earn ed second. DeH oo p picked up third a head of Mike Young and Stephens on. Leading in to the final round th e cha mpio ns h ip was still undecided. The battle was between Craig and Young wh o had 20 points sepa ra ting th em. If so me th ing happen ed to Crai g . Young would hav e a cha nce a t th e overa ll. The fin al round had to be restarted four tim es after ride rs continuall y jumped the ga te. Once underw ay Emi g shot o ut front followed by DeH o o p , Ste he n so n, Crai g and Chris Young. Mike Young was wa y back, just in sid e the top 10. As th e race slo wly progressed, Crai g made hi s way into th e lead after di cing with DeHoop. DeHoop occu p ied first for a short time, but co u ldn 't seem to hold th e pa ce that Cra ig was keep ing. Whil e Craig increased hi s lead KTM's Mik e Healey began working hi s way up from a bad start. In th e first mota H ea ley's th ro ttle struck, ca using a DNF, but things appeared to be going better for the Answer/ Pro Cycle/Oakley/KTM-sponsored rid er in round two . On the seventh lap Healey had tak en over fifth following the battle for third betw een Stephenson and Chris Young. The .two riders battled for many laps before Young managed to find th e right combination to make a pass. Once in third Young set aft er the leaders and chopped a few seconds off DeHoop's second pl ace position. Unfortunately for Young, Healey was al so slicing time off Del-loop's second place and was doing it more effec tively. With only three laps remaining th e KTM rid er squeak ed into third ahead of Young and Stephenson and contin ued to catch DeHoop.· . Back in th e pack Mik e Young was tryin g to make good hi s bad start. The AXO / Kal -Gard / O a k leybacked Cagiva rid er was into fifth wh en th e white flag fell and slowly began reeling in Chris Young. D/ Afram -sp onsored Craig captured the win ahead of DeHoop, H ealey, Mike Young and Chris Young. Craig's second mota performance ne tted him the title with 24 1 points topping Mike Young's' 214 poi nts. Rod ney Smith, the series po int leader coming into Carlsbad, was third at 207 points after not showing up for th e event. In th e 250cc Pro class Fisher won hands down. The Kawasaki rider h ol esh ot both rnotos and never looked back before taking a pair of easy win s. The first mota saw Steve Lamson and Kervera Yannie chase Fish er from start to finish with J erem y McGrath, Mike Young 'and Ro ss Pederson fighting for fourth. Pederso n overca me a bad start to take fourth at th e fini sh with Young advancing to fifth over McGrath. When it was all over Fisher claimed his second unchallenged win ahead of Yannie with Young holding Lamson a t ba y for third. Fish er's flawl ess pe rforma nce and 269 points earned him the championship a hea d of Jeff Ward's 243 with Lamson earn ing third onl y three points behind Ward. " I got a good start, " said Fisher.
