Carlisle.captures Sandhill GS win By Ken Faught BRENTWOOD, CA , JAN. 14 Kawasaki-mounted Ryan Carlisle used a 12 score to win division three of the 125cc Intermediate class in round two of the CMC/Dodge Truck Golden State Nationals at Sandhill Ranch. Carlisle easily wa lked away with th e first rnoto win but ha d a dif. . .' Halfway through th e race Chamberl ain dropped o u t of th e top five, a llowing Trittle 10 mov e into fifth . H owever a ll of th is changed during the last few laps as Bu tton fo rced hi s way past Trittle to resume his final position. At th e fini sh Smi th p icked u p th e win ahead of Pucelik, Erickson, Cl ay a nd Button. MOIO two again saw Sm ith pull a clea n holesh ot followed by Chamberl ain, Button, Erickson and J oe Bru ce. Button managed to d isplace Chamberl ain to seco nd during th e early stages of th e race a nd tri ed 10 reel in Smith . U p front Smith had a co mforta ble margin separa ting him from Button. , Button kept u p hi s ch arge a ll th e wa y 10 th e chec kers wh ere he had to sett le for seco nd behind Smith. Chamberlain co llec ted third a hea d of Er ickso n a nd Bru ce. Ja son P art irdg e made a cl ean sweep in th e 9- 11 year-o ld 60cc class. In th e first m oto Partridge blasted o u t front ea rly and progressively ope n ed up a huge lead over Zachary Rund, Greg Yearsley, John Meng an d Jay Theys. Yearsley,con tin ua ll y position, b ut R und ma naged to hold Yea rsley off unti l the checkered flag. Partri dge took the win unchalle nged . with Meng fini shi ng fourth and Theys fifth . Partr idge sh ot into the lead at th e sta rt of ro u nd two an d again proved to be th e domin ant rider. Partridge led th e race from sta rt to fin ish with Yearsley, Men g , ~und and Theys co mp leting th e top five. To add 10 Partridge's list o f wins, he also scored the overa ll victory in th e 9- 11 year-old 80cc O pen class. Partridge beat Chris Wh eeler , R u nd , Yearsley and Men g in mot o o ne a nd th en came back 10 repeat h is win in th e final ro u nd by p laci ng fir st a head o f Wh eel er , Meng , Yea rsl ey a n d R u nd . The I-I score ea rne d him th e overa ll win with Wh eeler , Meng, Years ley an d Rund fillin g in the top five. Yamaha -m ounted J erry Alema n was th e big winner in th e 50cc class. . Alem an showed Corey H oeft, Daniel Bla ir, Perry Richmond an d Brian Husley the wa y 10 th e fin ish in moto one, a nd then came back .to do it again in round two. Aleman took the overa ll win with his I-I score ahead of H oeft's 2-2, Bla ir 's 3-3 a nd R ich mond's 4-4. Brian Hu lsey .wa s fifth with a 5-6 ta lly. . Yamaha-mounted Robert Dr ew managed to bounce back from a . losin g fir st m ot o to win division two of the 250cc Junior class . Wh en the ga te dropped a t the sta rt of th e first moto Da vid Zarht sho t ou t o f th e gate and led Drew , Chris Ridgway, Ti m Ri ggs an d Phillip Wu rster o n th e first lap. Ridgway a nd Drew soon pi cked up th e pace an d cha lle nged Zahrt for th e lead. Zahrt retaliat ed an d managed to put a little brea thing room between himself an d th e pack. Shortly before th e finish Drew made o ne last stab a t Zahrt's posi tio n but it wa s n o good. Zahrt p ulled off th e win with Drew , Ridgwa y, Ri ggs and Wurster close behind. Second m ot o ac tio n saw Drew ta ke th e ea rly adva n tage from the start a nd spee d away with the lead. Zahrt gave ch arge in seco nd but co u ld n' t seem to find th e co m bi na tio n that led h im to a first -moto win. Back in th e pack Ridgwa y and Ri ggs battled for third as Wurster 'aga in held down fifth . While Drew co llec ted the chec kers a hea d of Zahrt, R iggs ma naged to push a hea d o f Ridgway for th ird. Wurster was fifth . In th e first 500cc Interm ed ia te m ot o Kenny Maddux ga ted perfectl y a nd pulled th e hol esh ot on ly to see Randy La w motor by during the ea rly part of the m o to . Maddux pursu ed Law th e en tire distance, but co u ldn' t mak e a p ass. Glenn Commans was thi rd a t th e chec kers ahead of G ilbert a nd Robert Shafer. .Ro u nd two saw Maddux a ga in grab the ea rly lead , but this time for good. Ma dd u x led Ron G ilbert, Sha fer, La w a nd J oel Christensen from start to fin ish before scorin g a n easy win. Maddux 's 2- 1 tally n etted h im th e overa ll win wh ich als o gives h im a two-point lead in the series over Gilbert.
