According to O liver, photographer Mik e Scully of Flyin ' Past Ph otos in trod uced him to Mamola and Doyle during a breakfast meeting last September at Alice's Restaura n t, a popular north ern Ca lifornia meeting pl ace for motorcyclists. The duo th en watched O liver com pe te in an AFM club race and th e AMA National at Sears Poin t and were impressed en ou ~h by hi s pe rformance to help him put together an effort. Ol iver, who rode for J ohn Lassak Racin g in '88 and .Ii nis hed fourt h in th e 250cc GP overall point sta ndings, bri ngs with him spo nsorship fro m H o u se o f Wheels in H o u sto n , Texas, and Air Tech Fairing of San Diego, Ca lifornia. The team will be known as Randy Mamola Racin g unless a major sponsor is secured, in which case the name will be changed to something similar to the Nordica / Roberts arrangement. "Just to be associated with Ran dy will get me a lot of press in Europe, a nd my ultimate goal is to race there," O liver said. Despite th is accomplishment, Kyle is probably best known as the builder of the unique Honda head/Ducati motor-powered. Schiess is also bu ildin g a chassis th at is a copy of the stock F-I un it, but in corporating 118-inch larger diam eter chrome-mo ly tubing wi th th inner walls. Brembo and FMF on the development of the prototype, and all have agreed to be OEM suppliers on the proposed product ion model. T h e p ro duct ion mode l. to be ca lled the C1A. will be identical t o the prototype but w ill f eature ABS plastic bodywork rather than the f iberg lass of t he prototype.
