Willie Surratt (74) and Mike Kiedrowski diced during the end ofthe second 125cc Pro moto:Surratt claimed the 'o ve ra ll win with a 2 -2 score. in . the race. On lap five Smi th dr op ped to third giving Surr att a narrow 'lead over Kiedrowski. The fin al few la p s saw Surratt and Kied rowski swap p ositions severa l tim es with Kiedrowski gene ra lly h olding th e upper h and. As th e race came down to the wire Kiedrow ski was ba rely ab le to ho ld' Surratt at bay , bu t crossed th e fin ish line first when he needed it th e mo st. Surratt took seco nd over Smi th , Davis an d Mi ch ael Ray Craig. Su rratt's co ns is ten t 2-2 paid o ff as th e Suzuki rider co llec ted the overall a nd $400 in prize m oney. Kiedrowski' s second m ot a s howi n~ bumped him to second overall with Lewis, Smith and Cr aig co m p leting the top five. : . j eff Hicks led th e start o f th e 500cc Pro in mota one with Bri an Manley, Healey, j on Nel son an d Brown close behind. Hicks soo n fad ed back to third as H ealey elbowed hi s ·wa y around Manl ey i n a ro g h, wh ooped-out secti on, for th e lead. Manley coun ter -r ea ct ed with a pass attempt, but he co ul dn 't make it sti ck a nd had to sett le for the number two 'slo t. Manley kept up hi s end of th e pressure until th e seventh lap wh en lapped riders slo wed h is charge which a llowed H eal ey to pull a small lead. About th e same time ' that H eal ey wa s ge tt in g sma ller in Manley's sights, T yson Vohland h ad pushed his way in to third. Vohland had a decent start a nd wa s riding a sm ooth race o n a track th at was beginning to get rough. As the race neared th e end the riders started to spread out a n d Healey cruised to a comfortable win over Manley, Vohland, Brown a n d Hicks. Vohland start ed th e second m ota action off by leading Hicks, Manley, Healey and Brown around o n th e first lap. At th e en d of th e fir st lap Vohland wa s nowhere to be fou n d and Manley was on to p with H eal ey and Brown breathing dow n h is neck. On th e fou rt h lap th in gs ch an ged once again wh en H ea ley made h is way into th e number o ne position with Brown claiming th e ru nner- up slot. Ma nl ey dropped to th ird. A t th e h alfwa y poi nt Brown m otored by H eal ey before a set o f tri pl es, on ly to see Heal ey o u tbra ke him in th e foll owing turn to regain the lead. After a few laps o f ba ttl in g with H eal ey Brown fin all y took co ntrol and soon opened up a th ree seco nd lead. Bro wn co llec ted th e checkers first with Healey, Manley, Greg Zit terkopf a nd H icks a fair dis tance behin d. " Wh en I came back from th e first 125cc Pro mota I didn ' t feel good, I thi nk I'm p icking u p the fl u," said H eal ey. " In th e seco nd 500cc mo to I was sick. So I jus t went ou t th ere and ro de th e race. I d idn't h ave to beat Brown, just ge t th e overa ll, so I h u ng ou t where I was." . Heal ey's 1-2earned h im the overa ll win and th e series point lead. Brown was seco nd with a 4-1 sco re over Manley's 2-3 and Hicks ' p air of fifths. Zitterkopf co m p le ted th e top five with 7-4. . R&D Suzuki/Fox/Sco rt/Sh oei sponsored Buddy Antunez rode o ne o f th e toughest races h e's had to rid e in a long time to collect th e overa ll wi n in the 80cc Expert class . .In th e firs t mot a Antunez swapped the lead with Kaw a saki' s j o el Albrech t with Albrech t eventually com ing ou t o n to p. T omm y Clow ers was third a head of Damon Huffman a nd Craig Decker. Round two told a d ifferent tal e as Antunez claimed th e easy win en ro u te to th e overa ll. Albrecht finished secon d fqr the day with j eff Grafton, Clowers and Decker ta king third th rough fifth. Honda-mounted Eric McKenna ca p tu red th e wi n in th e Vet Pro class via a I- I m ot a score.
