There's no wa y yo u co uld do every th ing in the U.S. T here's lo ts of records to be brok en , I wa nt to contin ue the rac ing to be like that . Fun. Even tho ug h it's a good living for ' me, I sti ll want to enjoy it. You keep mentioning Kenny. Do you co ns u lt with him on big decisions? Wh at to expect a nd wh at no t to expect. And he 's been rea l helpful. H e's been hones t wi th me. H e's one perso n that knows bett er th an anybody. Being arou nd him j ust amazes you , the fact that he 's o ne type o f guy tha t went to Europe a nd didn 't look bac k a nd what he left in Am er ica. He wen t o ver there and mad e th e best o f it a nd he helped change it into so rne-: thi ng that's a lo t better. Do you have any long-term goals? I g uess m y goa l now is to race co m pe titi vely for five more yea rs. If I have a goa l th at 's it. Race co rnpe titively for five more years and be able to retire on the top, regard less of wh eth er that 's racing back in th e U.S or racing in Eu ro pe. . I don 't think I'll ever come back here and race a full season of races. -It just doesn 't mak e any sense. Once you've mad e th e move th ere you 're there unless th ings over here turned around co m pletely. There's no wa y H onda co u ld offe r m e enoug h money to race in tt he U.S. com pared to wh a t you ca n mak e ' in Europe. O f co urse, I wo uld co me ba ck here if they offered me a cou p le o f mill ion do llars, but not hi ng like th at is going to ha p pe n here. What can you say about the team sponsor besides the fact that it will be announced at a futu re date? Gary Mathers ha s sa id that it 's a Japanese company. I just kn ow it 's a major spo nsor a nd if I d idn 't feel that it was a sponsor th at was go ing 10 promo te me a nd mak e me loo k good I wo u ld go with the Gall ina deal. Beca use the value o f the wa y hi s tea m is ru n a nd the man power he has a nd how I could look in the organizatio n o f being in hi s team, I think that wo uld have o verco me my though ts o n the tires. Because I think that p ro bab ly wo uld have been more valuable in th e long run a nd I thinkI wo uld have pushed Hon da into goi ng in that directi o n if they hadn' t co me up with th e sponsor. It 's a good eno ug h sponsor th at it 's goi ng to make me loo k good. They found it and their sponsorshi p wi th th e sponsor is proba bly a o ne- year dea l. So when do yo u get to ride th e bike? The 22nd a nd 23rd (o f Decemb er) in J a pan . It will be. the first time I ge t to ride th e 500. Dependi ng o n thei r test sch edule th ey' re talking about send ing a bike over here for me to ride a lo t at Will ow Sp rings and so me tra cks aro u nd here just to get fa mil iar wit h it. Will you race at all in the U.S. this year? I'm keeping a dirt tra cker ready for me at all times. If I'm home and the re 's a weekend where I ca n race a good mile, I'd like to do that because I'd still like to shoot for Springer 's (Jay Sprin gst een ) record of 40. I'v e got 38 (wins ) a nd like I say th ere's nothing better than riding those mile bikes. So maybe the fans haven't seen the last of you yet. I hope not.
