Yamaha 's J ell Russell head ed out w est to the AMA/D-36 Buckho rn Enduro a nd was gr eeted by mor e rai n, snow and freezin g co ld weather co ndi tio ns . Bur th e chill y tem peratures ju st seemed to heat up Russell as he edg ed o ut Suzuki pi lot Dave Bertram by 10 seconds lor the o vera ll wi n. Third place .' went to Honda-mounted Jeff Irw in. The Bu ckhorn Enduro was o rigi na lly scheduled as a Nationa l poi nt s pay ing event in O ctob er, but was cance lled du e to o verly dry weather co nd itio ns. But it was qui te the o pposite this weekend . It started pouring down rain on Friday aft ernoon whi ch turn ed int o sno w three ho urs into the end uro on Su nday mor ning. Two hu ndred and 10 riders were ready 10 go a t th e seven a.rn. start and the fir st chec k was zeroa ble for most of the th em . H owever, the s econd check saw AA rid er Ru ssell dropping 2.8 points wit h Bert ram losing 2. 18. It wa s at thi s tie-break er check wh ere the dogfight betw een Ru ssell and Bertram would be event ua lly decided . As th e rid er s che cke d i n an d o ut of checkpo int th ree, the rain became hea vier and th e Band C ride rs becam e less a nd less in n umbers.
