Ray. L izardo , winner of th e California Superbike School Challen ge I Seri es a t Willow Springs, had finished third in C Producti on but was DQ'ed. H e felt th at it was unfa ir because he'd raced hi s' bik e like th is all year a nd had never been 'to ld it was ill egal. T h e di squ al ifi ca t ion o f H o ge handed th e A Production win to J ohn Marunich and th e C Production win to Sam Wardri p , wh o deserved it after rid ing rig h t on th e edge a nd nearly hi gh -siding on the first lap in turn five. Hall was in volved in a number of battles for th e lead th rough ou t th e week end, but h is only win came in B Production Expert. Rid in g hi s GSXR750, Hall led th e first four laps, but was pas sed by l 6-year-old so u the rn Cali forn ian T omm y Lyn ch . As L ynch went pa st, H all no ti ced th at he was runn in g a Yoshimura pi pe. Lynch was blackflagged on th e fifth lap of the eig h tlap race, as was third- p lace ru nn er Ch uc k Graves for a similar infra ction. In actua lity, H all had a ma ssive lead ove r se co nd- p la ce fi n is her Cortez. L ynch , who was a lso runn ing a n incorrect number o n h is number plates, defended his actio ns , sayi ng that he'd q uali fied fo r the race a nd had entered for addi tional practice. Hi s father ha d told him 10 pu ll in on the last lap , bu t tha t didn 't stop Hall from bein g upset: " I was riding over m y head trying to ho ld h im off, and then I saw th at he was rid ing an ill egal bike. It 's not fair." These events led to much paddoc k goss ip, with one pit wag asking, " I' ve heard of 49-state bik es, but is that what th ey mean by Ca lifo rn ia models?" . H all 's on ly compensa tio n was that fou r of th e top six fin ish ers - H all , Andy Fen wick, Tim Morrissey a nd Ra y Yoder - were me mbers of th e Hu man Race T eam. T ogether th ey sta nd, divided they .. . stand. T he B Su perbike Expert race saw four Yamaha FZR750 pilots race for th e lead. Hall , J eff Du ckworth a nd Ri ck Delgado cam e from th e front at the start, whi le T om Kipp worked his way throug h the pack to win. Hall took second ~' i th Delga do thi rd , Du ckw orth fourt h an d Cortez fifth. The Open Formula race sa w Paul Bray lead sta rt to fini sh , wi th Hall taking seco nd. Bra y almos t lost it o n the last lap , co ming under th e bridge co m p letely side ways , bu t he was unaffected: " I wo uldn 't ha ve let it ge t a way." Mark Chin came from the 16th row in th e second wave, passing Kipp to finish third on hi s Yamah a. 5 150 Racing's J ay Denham won A Producti on after the lead er, Mexican Guillermo Vill areal , cras hed under the bridge in turn 11.
