A21rights.ra_d. _ Day to be remembered They say you can't go back to the good old days but I came as close as ever at the White Bros. Veteran Championship MX. Spectacular track, no dust, great organization, superb announcing, no major injuries and great racing, pi us fantastic prizes all combined to make one super event. O ver 360 riders showed up and not a sniveler in the bunch! The feeli ng of excitement at the trophy presentation reminded me of days past when every race had a formal trophy presentation. (I think that promoters everywhere should take notice that great events are still possible in this day and age.) The added touch of having 125cc MX World Ch amp ion Jean-Michel Bayle put o n a demonstration ride was frosti ng on an already delicious ca ke. Thank you, White Bro s. and prize donators, for a day to be remembered. SCOTT WALLENBU RG Advertising Director H i-T orq ue Publications, Inc. . Mission Hills, CA Old Timers' thanks The Over The Hill Gang Nevada Chapter wo uld like to express our gratitude a nd say thanks to a pair of "Jims. " O u r first thank you is for all the gifts and products donated by Jim O 'Nea l and Kevin Serios of O ' Nea l USA. Their donations made great prizes for our series final event. This was a long and tiring series which made the last race very special for the riders who participated in every race. Secondly, we would like to thank our special guest, Jim Holley, for givi ng advice and encouragement to all the riders. Yamaha Motor Corp. shou ld be very proud to have a representative of J im 's caliber. Thanks again to everyone and see you at the ranch! R. HANSEN OTHG, Nevada Chapter S. Lake Tahoe, NV Keep it affordable In Mr. Hugaboom's cr itrcrsm s (Vo ices, October 26 issue) of HarleyDavidson, the AMA and its restrictions imposed on four-valve per cylinder engines; he overlooked th e very foundation that made Grand National Championship dirt tra ck racing what it is today (with th e restrictions) - thri lting, highl y competitive and very exciting, and what it was before four-valve engines - thrilling, competitive, exciting and affordable! In the last four years ticket prices have skyrocketed to the point where the sport may suffer noticeably. A weekend of racing is no longer fami ly entertainment. Is it possible to have controlled technological progress wit hout sacrificing competition, excitement an d affo rd a bility, or are we to succu mb to fund ing unrestricted research and development for costly space-age ma terials and technology, thus giving an overwhelming advantage to the best sponsored (factory) riders? H a ve we fo rgotten what ha ppened when th ree-cyri nder engines were allowed to compete? How much faster will the tires allow them to race safely on a dirt surface? Have we reached the po int where we need to reduce the engine displacement to insure the safety and integrity of the sport? I trust the AMA will continue to make the neccessary restrictions to keep Grand National Championship racing interesting, entertaining and affordable. In 20 years of followi ng dirt track racing, I have never seen two cornperitors so equally talented a nd consistently motivated and prepared on different equipment as Scott P a r ker a nd Bu b b a Sho b ert. Although the re is only one Nu mb er O ne plate, th ey are indeed bo th champions! DO UG WILLET O ttawa,IL Lawson #27 It takes the efforts of a talented and determined rider like Eddie Lawson to win the number one plate in World Championship G P racing. L et 's not forget the " h el p" he received from Yamaha, Mr. (Kel) Carruthers, Marlboro, and his crew. Therein lies the injustice. GP racing is a business like any other form of employment. Mr. Lawson is free to sign with the highest bidder for his talents. H onda rightfully seeks to have the best men on its team. Let's vote to give Eddie the n u m ber one title defending plate to hang in his living room, Yamaha the fine print in the record boo ks, and pa int the number two pla te on Eddie's new bike, three on (Wayne) Gardn er 's, four on (Wayne) Ra iney's, etc. schools in Distri ct 29 in order to help you nger riders get better a nd the proceeds were a ll donated to our Distr ict. We have followed him an d eaten his d ust for several years . We are sure some of the pro riders will do the same thing. We just hope they get to know the " rea l" Damon as we know him. He's the grandaddy of us a ll in Distri ct 29. We are proud to be his friends. Go get 'em, Damon. Weare behind you. R USTY COLEMAN PATRICK SLATE P inebluff, N Damon Bradshaur recently signe with Yamaha and will contest th AMA Nation al Cham pionship M Series in '89 ... Editor. Brace praise Earlier this summer I suffered major knee damage in a mo tocross race a nd underwent arthroscop ic su rgery. As a result I was fi tted for a en knee bra ce from Innova tion Sports . The brace has been a pleasu re to wear, the fit a nd feel are excellen t, and it allowed me to contin ue racing. About one month ago I bro ke th main frame of the brace during a rae and was rea lly worried about the cos of fixi ng it. I knew the six-mont warranty ha d expired, but I sent th brace back to Innovation Sports fo repair anyway. In less than two weeks I receiv a brand new brace. They asked n questions and replaced it at n charge! The fit is perfect and I' back racing. A company like Inno vation Sports should be given credi for running a company this way. Knee braces should be worn befor injury and now with great compan ies lik e In nova tion Sports, peopl should have no reason for n o wearing the m. PAU L DUGA Sonora, Wind (Continued from page 1) MARK FROST H ol mes, NY Great ride We wo uld li ke to express our most heartfelt than ks to Arai, Bell, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and all the other sponsors tha t made the November 6 Ted Boody Memorial Dual Sport Ride possible. Pat O wens deserves a pat on the back for all his hard work, as does Jim Pilion for setting up such a nice ride (ou r fun meters were pegged the entire time). We had a great ride. Ted Boody's name will always be on our m inds. _ We can't wait for LA· B-V. Du al Sport is the wave of the future. Tell a buddy l JIM HEINEMANN JEFF HEINEMAN GRANT REED R O Y COE ED P RINCE Lawndale, CA The "real" Damon We would like to take th is opportunity to let everyone know how we .feel, and we are sure other District . 29 members feel , abo u t our own Damon Bradshaw . We are very proud of Da mon and wish hi m all the luck in all upcoming pro races. Damon is one of us, never conceited, never too caught up with himself to help us wi th our ' problems. Da m o n has he ld several in '89 . According to Tuf. "Th Bomber" will contest the AM National Championship 250c MX Series and the Supercro Series. Turning the wrenches f Bamett will be Bill West, who ha worked with the likes of Ste Wise, Alan King, Rick Burge Broc Glover, Rex Staten an Micky Dymond in the past. We returns to the Tuf Racing after season on the ATV circuit.
