Winner Ricky Lutz leads David Bagwell (26) in the 500cc Intermediate class. Lutz went 1-1, while Bagwell collected a 2-2. low ed close ly by Sean Conley, Greg Ziuerk opf a nd Turner. Before th e completi on of th e first lap Zitterk opf had tak en control of the lead with Myth en dropping to th ird. Wh it e held th e runner-u p spot. Ziuerkopf immedi ately started to pull away as Jon Nelson and Craig Davi s pushed thei r way th ro ugh th e pack. Both riders suffered fro m poor starts and had worked their way into second and third near the halfway mark. Willy Musgrave took over fourth after Whi te fell ' down in a tum. Mythe n was fifth . AJ; Zitterk opf stretched out h is lead to seven seconds, Turner pressured Myth en for fifth . The two H onda riders battled for th e last three laps with Turner managing to steal away the position. Wh ile Zitterkopf took the win , Da vi s sn uck aro u n d Nelson for second. Musgrave held onto fo urt h with Turner tak ing a well- earned fifth. Davi s vcarn e back in the second moto to h olesh ot T urne r. Zi tterk op l, White and Myth en . Davis' lead was short-lived as Ziuerkopf, aboard his four-stroke ATK with an electric star t, stole the point positio n. Davis soon los t one more position when Nelson dr ove right o n by. Nelson's adva ncement crea ted one of the best two-man battles of th e da y. The two rid ers banged bars several times before tangling in a turn on lap six. Nelson was the first to get up and neither rider lost a position. On lap eigh t the battle ended when Davi s pulled to th e side of the tra ck with mech ani cal problems . Ziuerkopf went o n to take the victory ahead of Nelson, Turner , Pet e Murray a nd White. . Zitterkopf's perfect I-I scored him . the overall. Nelson was second with 3-2, while Turner's 5-3 gave ' him third. Murray took fourth with 7-4 and Mu sgrave cla imed fifth with 4- 8. Tommy Clowers captured the gold in the 80cc Expert class . In the first moto Buddy Antunez gated perfectly to lead Joel Albrecht, Spud Walters, Clowers and Derek Natvig. Albrecht managed to hang with Antunez for two laps before the Suzuki rider pulled away. . On the second lap Clowers shot around Walters and focused his attention on catching the fleeing Albrecht. Halfway through the moto Jeff Grafton made an appearance in the top five as the Suzuki rider passed Walters and began catching Natvig. With less than a lap remaining .Antunez p ulled to th e side of th e track with mech anical problem s. " T he carburetor fell off," sai d Ant u nez in disgu ist. " I wasn' t sure what wa s ha ppen ing." Antu nez's troubl es h a nded Albrech t the win o ver Cl owers, Natvig, Grafton and Walters. Second m oto action saw Na tvig pu ll th e hol esh ot with Cl o wers, Antunez, Grafton a nd Ra y Hen sley close be hind. Clowers and Antunez motored in to the first two spots as Natvig fell bac k to fifth. Grafto n a lso ran into so me d ifficul ties as the Suzu ki pi lot cras hed to seventh. Grafton instan tly got up and again tried to work his way' toward th e fro nt of th e pack. Time'soo n ra n out for Grafton as Ant unez claimed the wi n a head of Cl o wers, Albrecht, Walters and Na tvig, Clowers co nsista n t 2-2 earned him th e overall. Albrech t's 1-3 gave him second 'over Walters' 5-4. Gra fton's 4-5 topped Antunez's 9-1 for fourth. Bill y Felts do m inated the In terrne- . diate portion of th e 80cc cla ss. Sh ortly after moving .into th e fin al top three position, the Kaw asaki ri der crashed bu t quickl y go t up without losing a spot. Felts aga in pounded his ' way toward th e front to claim the victory ahead of Nelson, Mich ael Stanton, James and Anthony Amaradio. . Felts wraped up th e win with a pe rfect low score. Nelson took home second with 4-2 over James' 3-4. Pagel managed fourth' with 5-7 a nd Stanton rounded out th e top five with 10-3. . In th e 500cc Intermediate class R ick y Lutz and Da vid Bagwell , battled throughout most of th e fir st mot o while B.]. Millspaugh, Tim Nash and David Rosen rounded o u t th e top five. Second moto action saw Lutz come back to take th e holeshot, followed by Bagwell, Nash, Bob Nunez a nd Millspaugh. Lutz immediately started to open up a comfortable lead as Millspaugh moved into third. Millspaugh was riding smooth and soo n challenged Bagwell for second. The last two laps saw Millspaugh push Bagwell in hopes of a mistake. H owever, a mi stake never. material ized and Lutz picked up the win and the overall ahead of Bagwell, Mills. paugh and Rosen. • Frank Lowers went 1-2 to claim the overall win in the 500cc ·J r. class. Chuck Bagwell (behind Lowers) took second with a 3 -1. ---... Damon Bradshaw (45) won the 125cc Pro class via a 3-1 tally, while Mike laRocco (behind Bradshaw) finished third.
