SEPT. 25 Wi th 250 riders fro m a five-sta te area on ha nd to do ba tt le o n the excellently prepared Echeconnee MX track Geo rgia 's Matt Sh ue emerged as th e top rider of the da y. Kawasakimounted Shue totally dominated bo th Sen ior Mini and Super Min i cIasses, leading every la p of each moto. Mot o o ne of th e 250cc cIass ,featured th e comeback race of the day , as cIass favorite, Freewheel ing Honda's La nce Brannon, was • left stuck in the gate. Randy Tomlinso n led th e pa ck in to turn one, but was quickly passed by Roswell Honda's Ken Kowalczyk. Kowalczyk opened a considerable lead on the field but Brannon was moving ul.' fasL At the white flag Brannon had moved mto second place and had his sights on Kowalczyk. Two turns from the finish Lance stuffed his Honda under Kowalczyk to take the lead and complete the comeback win. . , Moto two was a different sto ry as Brannon pulled the hol eshot and di sap peared from th e field , ta king th e overall victory with Ko walczyk placing second and H onda- m ounted Dickie Fountain taki ng th ird. On lap three Dukes took a hard fall in th e whoop section and retired for the da y, This left Cr ozier in the lead with Nea l at his rear w hee l. The race of the day pr oceeded as Neal tri ed in vain to pass Crozier at every corner, but Crozier was equal to th e task and held off Neal for th e victory. In moto two Neal put his Kawasak i o ut fron t ear ly and mo tor ed to an easy wi n, with G eor gia Cycl e Supply 's T ommy Ma rt i n taking second. Fi rst mota winner.
