Cortez th en seemed to tire as Davis fin ally got by a nd drove towards Pascarella. Davis lined Pascarella up and slipped by him with a block pass after landing from a jump. Pasca rella stay ed rig h t with Davis, and a co uple of laps later, made a no the r pass sti ck . But at th e white flag Davis got by aga in to finish seco nd behind L ew is . "I j ust let him go since I knew I had th e overa ll ," said Pascarella. When th e500cc Pro class roared o ff the line, Nelson nabbed th e holeshot whi le Rich My th en, Sean Conley, Joey Schlag and Russ Wag eman ch ased. For th e next few lap s this order stayed th e same until Schlag got by Conley going th rough a sweeper. Sch lag th en took over second when Myth en went wide through a turn. . On la p six My th en cou n tera tta cked and hounded Schlag for th e entire lap and made his move in a whoop section. My then gota harder drive co m in g out of ,a turn and caught Schlag in th e a ir. " I was going too fast in the air, and when I landed, I got on the brakes but cou ldn't sto p ," sa id My th en, who p lowed into Schlag as they both went down, knocking th em o ut of the top 10. . Wageman took over second behind' Nelson and in front of Brian Elder, and they stayed in th at order to the finish with Con ley taking fourth ahead of Pete Murray. Schlag grabbed a huge holeshot a t the start of mota two and Murray was second followed by Nelson , Mike Hooker and Wageman. The order stayed the same until lap eight when Wageman went down in the whoops trying to pass Hooker. Conley rammed Wageman and they both dropped wa y ba ck. Schlag continued on w ith the lead a nd took the win ahead of Murray and Nelson. In both 250cc In term edia te motos Ray Crumb trampled 'th e entire field, shooting o ut into the lead to go un contested both times fo r the overall win. Eddie R eed nabbed second ov er all with a 4-3 score, narrowly. beat ing Bill y Wo ods' 3-4 tally. T he first m oto of th e third di vision of th e 125cc Beginner class saw John . Specht grab th e lead ahead of Matth ew Brake, J.R. Cecchetti and Ni ck Nolte. Nolte charged hard through four laps and worked his way up to second behind Sp echt. Nolte even tu a lly go t Specht for th e lead and took th e win , Specht wa s second and Ceccheui ended up third. Moto two was n early identical as Sp echt took the early lead wh ile Nolt e on ce a g a i n moved up, hounded Specht and eventua ll y got by for the win . 'Bill Say er he ld third the en ti re mota , despite getting pressure from Brake. When th e 80cc Beginner class bolted through th e first turn Eri c Schnell took the holeshot followed by Josh Boykin a nd Cagey Hinkey, The three riders stayed close but nobody was able to mak e an assa u lt a n d Schnell took th e win. In round two Hinkey grabbed th e lead followed by Boykin, who stayed right a t th e leader's rear fender until he mad e hismove in a sweeper and took o ver first. Hinkey later lost an othe r position to Sch ne ll wh en he launch ed h imself o ut of contro l a nd crashe d off a jump. - Overall winner Paul Ito (57 P) and third-place finisher Drai Nichols dice in the 60cc (9-11) class. CMC/Dodge Truck Trans~Cal Series: Round 4 Pascarella pulls off win in Chowchilla By Troy Sc ott Phot os by Joh n Valdez an d Scott CHOWCHILLA, CA, OCT. 1-2 Mike Pascarella pulled off the overall victory ·in -the 125cc Pro' Class without winning a mota, as the CMC/ Dodge Truck Trans-Cal Series took a twist and was run on a su percross-style tra ck at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds. ' Both motos featured several lead c h a n ges in . the ea rl y going , and although P as ca rell a wasn 't among th e leaders he combined a 2-3 sco re to nab th e win. First-rnoto : winner J eff Pest ana cou ld n' t put to ge the r a strong showing in the seco nd rou n d a nd fin ished seventh a n d thi rd o vera ll, while Kyle Lewis, who won th e seco nd round, was left th e runner-up o verall a fter a fift h in moto o ne . . In t he 250cc P ro class Pascarell a battled wi th Suzuki' s Ty Davi s, a nd Davi s was th e o ne who ca me up th e o vera ll wi n ner wi th 2- 1 performan- ces. Jon N els on won th e 500cc P ro ' class with a 1-3 score. When the gate fell for th e first 125cc Pro class m ot a Danny Pala dino beat th e pa ck to turn o ne and was followed by Gra yson H art . Davis was last a fter getting stuc k in the ., ga te, whil e Pestana wa s movin g toward th e front tra iled by R andy Moody a nd Levi Noble. Pasca rella event ually found a way past, Moody, who came under fir e from a hardchargin g Lewis on lap four. Up front Pa ladino was losin g - gr ound to Pestana, and his distance was cu t to nothing when he overshot a turn an d fell. Pestana moved right in a nd took th e lead a few turns later ' wh en P al adino fell again a n d dropped o u t of th e top 10. This made th e top fiv e Pestana, H art and Mood y, who was busy trying to hold o ff P ascarell a a s w ell a s Ryan Hughes. With two laps re main in g Pest ana had th e win locked up, but th e o the r fou r riders b attl ed to th e wire. Pascarella fin all y got by Hart for seco n d , while Hart's last lap had him figh ting off both Hughes and Lewis. They never got by a nd Hart took third. Lewis qui ckly took th e lead from Corte z a nd began to pull away, a nd by th e end o f th e seco nd lap Davis had found a way past Lamson and h ad mo ved up on Cortez to cha lle nge him for second. Davis made his m ove ent erin g a sw itch back, but Cortez held hi m 0[£ and Davis co u ld n' t o verp o we r hi s dri ve to th e next co rner. The two riders battled for th e nex t few turns a nd Da vis co u ld n' t m ak e a p ass stic k. By tile end o f lap four, Lewis had o pe ne d a six-secon d lead o n the Cortez/Davis battle.
