Burges steals Sturgis TT By Dave Hoenig STURGIS , SD, AUG. 9 It was a trip back in time wh en the J ackp in e Gypsies spo nsored a Vinta ge TT ra ce. Twenty entr ie s brought th eir pre-1975 motorcycles out to race and mainly have fu n. In th e 500cc class, race organizers Dwayne Burge pulled away from a tig ht race made up of Dan Deubler, Denny Ka n n en ber g a n d Mike Coo per. Burge left the day's oldest rider Deubler, 57, to battle it o u t wit h Kannenberg. Bo th used their years of experience as th ey pl ayed a nd jabbed a t one another. Deub ler powered ahead out of th e last tum for second. The 750cc clas s belonged to you ng Mall Burge after he moved by Tom Robertso n. Burge styled to a bi g lead as William Burr took his BSA to seco nd. H arlan Reycroft was th e crowd favorite o n h is 1934 Indian, push ing the old hand shifter into a battl e for th ird but finally settling for fourth . Results By R.C. Jones AUBU RN , CA, AUG. 26 Eddie In gels passed th e number one p la te over to Jim Sisemore then went on to win the Northern California Championship for the second year in a row at Gold Country Speedway. Ingels, aboard h is A&A Racing/ Peteri ch Cycles/ Quaker Sla te/Belli Champion / KjeN Filters/Sierra sponsored G-M, was on the money tonigh t laking a perfect score into th e final round. As Ingels lined up against Sisem ore in their last heat, Ingels needed to win or fini sh seco nd for the champ io nsh ip. Ingels grabbed th e lead early as th ey hit tum on e with Sisemore breathing down his neck. After a lap Ingels seemed to hav e it in control while Sisemore stayed close. As they began the final lap Sisemo re took th e insi de away and inched past, la king a narro w lead exiti ng turn two. In gels kep t close th rough th e final turns, but Sisemore held him off for th e win. . .Mik e Solis had hi s best ni ght of the seaso n as he was th e surprise second pl ace finis her as some of the top guns had th eir problems early. Solis, riding smooth all ni ght, only dropped a point to Ingels , th en Sisemore in their heats and won his o ther three placing him seco n d overall.
