Goodfell ow won th ree classes O pen Production , 750cc Superbike a n d 600 cc Production - wh il e Crevier won the 750cc Production a nd Formula T wo races. Goodfell ow's first win ca me on Saturday in the P ro O pen Production class . The Van couver ," B.C. , resident, riding with a broken left foot, grabbed th e lead at th e start on his Honda RaO, leading Kawasakimounted Miguel DuHamel into tum one and never looking back. By th e . third lap both Craig Trinder and Daryl Fletcher had also gotten by DuHamel, and on lap four Fletcher took the second spot. The positions stayed this way until the end of the race, with Goodfellow taking the checkered flag , followed by Fletcher, Trinder, DuHamel and Tom Douglas. Crevier's first win came on Sunday in the ·Pro 750cc Production race. Attrition played a key role here as only 13 out of th e 24 racers fin ished th e race. Goodfellow took the lead from the pole position, chas ed by fellow Vancouverite Steve Di ck, riding a Suzuki GSXR750, Crevier o n a Yamaha FZR750 a nd Michel Mercier and Craig Trinder, both on GSXR750s. The seventh lap saw Goodfellow pull off in th e hairpin due to mechanical difficulties, allo wing Crevier to tak e th e lead. During lap I4 of th e l5-lap event, an ot her mishap took p lace as T ri nder blew hi s engine and went off in turn one.' At th e fini sh line it was Crevier taking the win, foll owed by Fletcher, Dick and Mercier. In fifth spot was . Michael Griffiths, on another Suzuki GSXR750. Even though he finished fourth, Mercier's finish ensures him of th e National Pro 750cc Production _ titl e. ' The Formula Two rac e was held next , and the battle was between _ . Crevier on aYamaha TZ250 and Jon Cornwell on a Spondon-Rotax. Cornwell was out in front from the start but Crevier wouldn't let up, passing Cornwell on several occasions. When it came down to the crunch , Crevier was III front by a fraction of a second. T he Pro 600cc Production event featu red an exciting battle led by Eddy Brunet on a Suzuki RG500. Brunet grabbed th e hol eshot at th e start, foll owed by DuHamel o n a Kawa saki , G oodfellow and J im DeWitte on H onda CBR600 H urrica nes a n d Norm' Murph y on a Kawasaki. By th e second lap , Brunet a nd Goodfellow were a t each o ther 's th roats . Bru net held th e lead for th e fi rs t II laps , but G o od fell ow snatched it on lap 12 and went o n to finish firs t. The rest of th e top five riders were all from Westwood . - Fletcher, Dave Chiter and Sean Sm yth . The ' 20-lap Pro Superbike main event go t off to - a bad start for G oodfello w, as h e enco un te re d mechanical pro blem s with his RC30 during th e warm-up lap and didn 't make it back to th e grid in time for th e start. Trinder was al so havin g problem s with his Suzuki GSXR750, blowing th e engine in tum one and causin g a major oil spill. Two of th e Ea stern contenders - Ru eb en McMurter (to p National p oints holder for this class) a n d Paul McMillian both went down in th e oil spill. This led to a red flag and a complete restart. Meanwhile, Goodfellow's cre w jumped onto the track and pushed his bike ba ck to the pits as another rider gave Goodfellow a lift. Miraculously, th e crew got his bike go ing, but he was gridded last. McMurter and McMillian were both back in the race as well. Merci er , on a Suzuki GSXR750, took the lead on the restart, but was soon over taken by Dick on ano ther Suzuki. G oodfellow, m eanwhile, had managed to pass half of the pack. By the fifth lap Dick still held th e lead, th ough he was n ow being challe nged by Crevier on a Yamaha FZR750, DuHam el o n a Kawasaki, Mercier and Goodfellow . For the nex t few laps, Dick and Crevier di ced back a nd forth. On lap 13 Goodfellow made h is mov e, passing Mercier, a n d by lap 17 he 'd also p assed Du H arnel, moving into third pl ace. Lap 18 saw Goodfellow pass both Dick and Crevier to ta ke th e lead, which he held acro ss th e finish line. DuHam el, Crevier, Dick and Mercier rounded ou t the top five. Results RZ CUP: 1. ' Dur elle dominates Black Hills RegionalHM By Dave Hoenig STURGIS, SD, AUG. 14 The Black Hills Motor Classic wrapped up five consecutive , days of racing with the Jackpine Gypsies-sponsored half mile regional at the Sturgis City Fairgrounds. Davey Durelle ran away with th e Expert main on his Donahue H -D/ AI Muth H-D/Wood Racing/ShoeilBell Ind.lGeneral Eng.-sponsored, Kris Arrnentrout : tuned Wood-Rotax. Du reIle set the fast time, won the quickest heat and easily won on the wide, grooved half mile. , Durelle turned fast Expert time at 25.178 ahead of Mike Reid's 25.487 and four Expert heats were up next. Durelle won the first over Royal Adderson, and only the first two would move to th e m a in. The remainder of th e field would com e fro m two sem is. T he second heat belonged to Reid over Craig J ohnson. 'Will Davis cap tured heat three on hi s Harley over Bob McDonnelL The last heat went to Peter H ook while Mik e Inderbitzen charged past Kirk Stro n g on th e last lap for secon d. . The non-qualifying experts were p u t into two semis with the top two going to the main. Randy Triplett got by Dan McDonneIl early to win the firs t as McDonnell held off A.}. Eshwig and Kelly Larkin. The last semi belonged to Arney Wi ck . Joel Green took the last transfer from Greg Wagenknecht, who dropped from contention. Darin Balderston and Jeff Dietz came, up just short in third and fourth. . In th e Expert final , last year's race winner DureIle got th e holeshot and mov ed to a goo d lead over feIlow Donahue H -D rider, Hook. Mike Reid too k over second on his WoodRotax on lap four. Davis held fourth over T riplett. The order remained th e same until th e las t lap whe n Triplett pitched it away wh ile challenging Davis. Inderbitzen , Green, Johnson, Dan McDonnell , Anderson , Wick, Bob McDonneIl and a rem ounted Triplett rounded o ut th e field. Jimmy Sanchez took th e point position in the Pro-Am mai n on his H ondabut Dan Stanley took over at the halfwa y ma rk an d kept his Wood-Rotax o ut fro nt for th e win. R icky Smith held third all th e way , while G ary Ferravanti and Danny Cahoon batt led over fourth. The battle went on until th e last lap when Ferravanti bailed off in tum three. Blake Ehrich moved up to fifth while John Dillenburg passed Dale Jenne- . man on the last lap for sixth . The Junior final went as expected, to Kevin Atherton.eAtherton rode a perfect race as th e top three positions were set from th e start,with Bobby .McDoweIl and Kris Kiser on their way to the winner's circle. Jenkins mau' s Malve rn HS By Jeff Sanders MALVERN, OH, AUG. 28 KTM-mount ed J oel J enkins turned in 13 laps on th e very challe nging five-mile track of th e newly-opened Malv ern Mo to Sport Park to take th e overall win at the Malvern H are . Scrambles. J enkins led from start to finish with early com petition co ming from Open class winner Keith Bucher, Senior II winner Ronald Rose , 250cc class winner Kevin McCann and I25cc winner Phil Gauthier. All four riders stayed within striking distance o f J enkins but fad ed halfway .through the race. Dave Shelly suffered a bad start but turned in an outstanding ride to win the 200cc class and take second overall, the only rider to complete I~ laps with Jenkins. . 27
