Workman wins
Tanana Valley Fair SX
By M.R . Edge
FAIRBANKS, AK, AUG. 20
Northern Power Sports-sponsored
Andy Workman won the A main at
the Tanana Valley Fair Supercross
and is now the current series leader
in both the 125 and 250cc Expert
classes at the Alaska State Motocross
Championships. Workman was by .
far the crowd favorite.
The first qualifier was a Workman
holeshot as he led the pack on his
Suzuki. Kawasaki of Anchorage
teammates Sam Myers , Greg 'Chatterton and Ralph Blanchard followed. At the halfway mark Myers
bailed, letting Chatterton and Blanchard by. Workman easily won
followed by Chatterton and Blanchard. Myers finished fifth and made
th e last transfer spot to the A main.
Qualifier two belonged to Vernon
Johnson on a self-sponsored Suzuki.
Johnson took first a hea d of Kawasaki Fun Center teammates Rick
Kantola, Steve Woodward, Steve
McGrath and Eugene Cevasco.
The A main start found Workman
ahead of everyone else and pulling
away in every comer. Kantola followed a ways back with Johnson,
Woodward and McGrath right
behind. The best racing was put on
by Blanchard, who started dead last
a nd p icked riders off each lap until
he was in fourth behind Johnson.
A blown water pump sea l put Johnso n out for the n igh t. Workman took
a well deserved win followed by
Kan tola and then 'Blan chard.
