Houston hot at Paris ST By Bobby Lewis P ARIS, TN, AUG. 5 Ken Houston was too hot to handle . tonight in short tra ck racing at Pari s. He pulled the holeshot in the Open class final and increased the lead with every lap in front of his hometown cro wd. David Fl ow ers ran second th e entire wa y wh ile Joel Barrow had to work past J eff Kluge for hi s spot in th e top three. Barro w passed Mark Walker on th e second lap of th e 250cc main and rode on to a comfortabl e wi n in that class. Ri ders were do wn all over th e trac k and J ohn Lewis and Robbie Grief ra n to second a nd third over Jimmy Allen , Walker, Chuck Allen and Eddie Reagor. In th e I25cc class , Grief pulled the holeshot a nd ra n eight perfect laps to win a close one over John Sh errard and Chris Goodw in. . Ch ris Boone went to th e front of th e 80cc class , th e biggest of the n igh t, and led the first three laps before Tommy Hayden slid by to ta ke the lead. H ayden held the point to take the win over Boo ne. Pa ul Morgan and Aaron Ladd were in a heated ba ttle for third which Ladd wo n at the finish. Tommy Hayden had an easier time in th e 65cc class as he led every lap. Josh ua Knott held seco nd for a lap befor e Jarrod Barrow claimed the runner-up spo t. McMillen wails to Raceway Park MX win By Rosanne Lukaitis ENGLIS HTOWN, NJ, AUG. 7 Ap proxima tely 500 motocross racers filled the starting gates at J ay Irwin 's Raceway Park MX track, and it was Kurt McMillen , aboard hi s EP Performs and Du tch ess Recreationa l Vehicle-sponsored Honda who had the track diale d to p erfection. McMillen captured wins in both the 250cc and O pen Expert classes. In the first 250cc Expert moto Mark Costa jumped o ut to an ea rl y le ad. J im Ka p itan powered hi s H on da right beh ind Costa as th ey headed up th e Woodbridge Kawasaki steps. Into the back sectio n a change of hands took place as Kapitan powered into th e lead. Moving up, McMillen put th e pressu re on a nd soon took over second. The battle for ·the lead began as Kapitan tried to .h old onto th e top spo t, but MeMillen was brea th in g down his ba ck. 'As the battle to the lead contin ued, positions swap ped within the pack. J erry Seip skillfully moved past Dag Boyesen and worked up to Costa in third. After passing Costa, Seip was hounded by Ray Sommo. Sommo, after a bad start which left him in th e back of the pack, was on th e gas as he moved into thi rd. McMillen still held th e lead runni ng 15 seconds ahead of Kap itan. When th e checkers fell McMill en took first ahead of Kap itan, Sornrno, Seip and Boyesen . In the final moto Costa grabbed the holeshot again, with Sommo and McMillen close behi nd . Bu t So mmo quickly moved into the lead with McMillen p u sh in g hard . In th e supercross sectio n McMillen go t by So mmo but sta lled his mo tor an d Sommo kept th e lead; Costa held o n to third. H owever, Sommo took a costly spill whi ch dropped him ba ck to fourth. McMillen inheri ted th e lead with Costa in second and Kapitan in third. Sommo soo n had bik e problem s and had to p ull off.
