Davis bags Orange County Raceway MX By Jeff Sherry 32 BITHLO, FL, AUG. 20 H onda -m ounted Danny Davis wo n both m ot os for the overa ll victory in the Woods II class at Orange Co u nty Raceway's Nigh t MX. Th e first mota saw Ya ma hamounted Pete J o rdan grab th e ea rly lead followed by Sha ne Adkins..Sean McCarthy and Dav is. By the seco nd la p Da vis pu lled his H ond a in behi nd J orda n a nd started to a p ply p ressure. On th e last la p Jordan bobbled in a tigh t tum a nd Da vis shot past for th e lead. T erry Thomas put in a strong ri de after a back- ofth e-pack sta rt to claim third. . . Davis po t th e sta rt wired a n d . pulled th e hol eshot in th e seco nd rnoto . Thomas got a good start a lso a nd wa s running seco nd , but fell on lap two a nd got back up toward the back. Jordan put h is Yamaha into second and by the end started to put the moves on Davis, bu t he ran o ut of time. Gregg Huffman moved through the pack to take third, which was good for th ird overall. Charles New was the bi~ winner in the Woods I class. The first moto saw Ran dy R ickel put his Honda into the lead with New h ot on his tail. John Vangilder held on to third until the midway point, but went down letting everyone by. Rickel and New fought each other all the way to the flag with Rickel taking the win. New took second with Tim Endsley rounding out th e top three. Second moto actio n saw New take th e lead with Rickel glued to hi s rear fender until Ri ckel stalled his b ike, letting Endsley by. The race contin ued in thatorder u ntil late in th e ra ce whe n New a n d Endsley crashed together. Rickel was following too close and cras h ed in to th e fa llen riders. New was up first an d th en Endsley a n d they fi n ished in that order, giving Ne w the overall win. Lee Ma rtin III took his first overall win with h is 2-2 moto score in th e 250cc C cla ss, ri ding his new H on da for th e fir st tim e. Martin took the hol esh ot a nd started to run away with m oto one until the last lap when J erry Taylor passed him for the wi n. T aylor, wh o went down in the firs t turn, got up and turned on th e gas to pass everyone. The second rnoto was cu t short because of h ea vy rains. ' H ondam ounted Eric Schrader jumped out in front of Martin and Robert Whitney. Schrader who was in the lead wh en the black flag came out, took the win over Martin. The 125cc Dash for Cash saw St. Augustine Cycl es/O 'N eil- sponsored J ohn T orregrosa pull th e h ol eshot ahead of Kawasaki rider T im Pangburn a n d Honda rid er Cr is Kau fman . Horseman lassoes Fossil Sowl MX By Butch Pharness CLARKIA, 10, AUG. 21 Casey Horseman fought hard for his win today in the 125cc Novice class on the cha llenging Fossil Bowl motocross track. Moto one saw Tim Taylor take the holeshot. H orsema n and Eric Christiansen were right there with Rick Littrell, from Boise, Idaho, and Jason Brook rounding out the top five. Taylor, Horseman and Christiansen had quite a dogfight going o n. Wi th th e white flag insight, Taylor held off a h ard chargi ng Horseman, who was being tai led by Christianse n. H o rseman fina lly made th e o ne mistak e Christiansen wa s lookin g for a nd go t passed. Bu t time ran ou t for Christiansen as he tr ied to ge t by T aylo r. Tay lor wo n th e moto wi th Christiansen , Horseman, Bro ok s a nd Littrell finishing in th e to p five. Mo to two wa s a di fferen t story however , Horseman pulled a super clean h ol eshot. A few bike lengths b ack was Christian sen , Ta ylor, Brooks and Littrel l. Christiansen tried every trick in th e book to get by Horseman but nothing worked. Horseman went on to win' with Christian and Taylor second and third, respectively. By Hurley & Dot Short SANFOR D, NC, AUG. 21 Kevin Bo wles was the overaIl winner in th e 250cc B class today at Devils Ridge M , wi th Sha ne Ken n edy taking second. In the first moto David EIler, on a Kawasaki, grabbed the holeshot a n d was foIlowed by Bow les and William Barbour. At th e halfway point, EIler still had th e lead with Bowl es an d Kenn edy hot behind him. Bowles kept th e pressure on, an d when Ell er went down with two la ps to go, Bowles was th ere to cl a im first pl a ce. Bowles had a comfortable lead, followed by Ell er, Kennedy a nd Barbour. I n the seco n d 250cc B mota , Bowles came o ut with th e holeshot, foIl owed b y Gregory Erwin and Kenned y. On th e seco n d lap, Kennedy moved into seco n d place, foIl owed by Erwin and Barbour. Kennedy put the move on Bowles and took over first Bowles went down but made a quick recovery and kept his second-place for the finish . Lonnie Taylor and Erwin finished third and fourth . The overaIl went to Bowles, followed by Kennedy, EIler and Lon n ie Taylo r. Jim Neese was the force to be rec kone d with in the School boy . class. In the first moto, Hank Moree took the holeshot foIlowed by J im Neese, Vincent Brown and Rusty Coleman. When Brown went down , Coleman moved up to third. Moree was way out front, but the competition was o utstanding among Coleman, Neese and Bro wn for seco nd, third and fourth. Neese m oved to the second spot when Coleman went down. Moree went down but made a quick recovery and hung on to first. It was Neese's turn to go down and Coleman moved ba ck into second. Neese had to settle for third place. In the' second rnoto, Neese took co m ma nd as he grabbed th e holeshot followed by Moree and Ned Blackwel der. Moree went do wn a nd was u na ble to finish th e mot o. Vohland wins again at Sacramento MX By Nuklear Neukam SACRA ME 'T O, CA, AUG. 19 Arai /Hi-Po inr/Team Green Kawasa ki-Tyson Vohland sco red yet a not her overall victory in th e Pro cla ss at Sacramento Raceway Park 's Friday Ni gh t Stadiu m Mot ocross. The first mo to ki cked o ff th e five week Su m me r Showdown Series. After th e first turn things looked to be exciting as Dave Wood, aboard a Fairfield Kawasaki, put a move ori Vohland and slipped into the lead. Wood was ab le to put a co uple of bike lengths on Vohland but af ter a few laps Vohland moved in for the swoop. Entering a left -hander, Vohla nd dove inside and took over the lead and began to run away.Vohland took th e win 20 seco nds ahead of Wood with Derek Cu rr ie and Cl iff Austin, both H on da -mo u nted, third and fourth, respectively. , Mo to two was a ll Vohland's as he led from start to finish, winning b y even a larger margin. Wood wa s again second for second overall while Austin secured third ov eraIl with a third this time o u t. Currie was fourth in the sec o n d round for fourth overa ll. In Intermediate com peti tion Mik e Mennig took hi s Yam aha to vic tory in both m ot os for th e overa ll win while Steve Nelson held o ff Yamaha mounted John Thomas in both motos for secon d overall. Douglas doubles at Saylands Night MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA , AUG. 12 Veteran Master and Pro rider Phil Douglas was really hot Friday n ight a t Baylands Raceway Park MX. Pixie put together four wins in four rides aboard h is Suzuki RM. In his first appearances on th e track Douglas was able to ga in th e point and eventuall y th e win over fellow Veteran Master Duane Hughes. Repeated tries by Hughes to find a way around Douglas were all th war ted. In the second moto the results were the same but the fatigu e factor was vis ib le . Dou~Ias looked more fatigued in taking the second moto victory. Between motos , ho wever, Douglas had raced in an eight lap moto and had won it a lso .
