Ryan rode most of the mo to in fifth to secure second ov erall , whil e Sweden 's Jorgen Nilsson took sixth. World Championship 250cc MXSeries: Round 11 Andreani tops Ryan in Argentinean GP COSQUIN, ARGENTINA, SOUTH AME RICA, AUG. 14 Italian Giuseppi Andreani captured his first-ever GP overallvictory at the expense of America's Ricky Ryan in the second-tolast rou n d of the series. Giuseppi, Hondamounted went 4-1 to cla im the overall ~hile Ryan went 2-5 ' ' f or second I dglng F' pace, e Inland's Pekka Vehkonen, who 26 tallied a 6-2 combination. Britain's Rob Herring looked to be th e rider to beat after the Yamaha pilot smoked everyone in the first moto for the win, but while in fifth pl ace and climbing in the second moto, H erring 's good lu ck ra n out as a rock put a whole in his cra nkcase and all th e transmi ssion oil ran ou t, pu tting an end to his ride. Andreani ra n into th e same problem in th e first rnoto, however, the Itali an managed to bab y hi.s Honda-to fini.sh fourth. In th e first moto, H ernng got the . upper hand on Ryan after H oll and's Gert-Han Van Doorn and Vehkon en collided which resulted in a big pi leup. Caught in the mess included USA's Rodney Smith and Germany's Roland Diepold. H erring easil y captured th e moto win, whil e H onda-mounted Ryan hung in for second place. Van Doorn regro u ped to finish third , whi le Andreani limped in for fourth. The seco n d moto was totall y dominated by Andrea n i, who had World Championship 250cc IfX Series: Round J 0 Vehkonen's victory in Venezuela MARACA Y, VENEZU EL A, AUG. .7 Cagiva's Pekka Vehkonen kept his chances of winning th e World Championship 250cc MX Series title alive by sweeping both motos at th e Venezuelan GP, while seri es points leader from Holland, Yamaha's John Van den Berk went 6-2 for third overall. Sneaking in betwee n th e two riders was Finland's Yan n ig Kerv ella , Honda. . Vehkonen captured the win in the first moto after passing team mate Cert-jan Van Doorn, and won the second after out-lasting a fading Rob Herring, who had passed Van den Berk earlier in the race to take th e lead, but Herring couldn't stand th e 90 degree temperatures. Vehkonen eventually worked his way up and passed the wilting Herring, then shot . b~ Van den Berk for the lead and WIn . Van den Berk gated poorly in the first moto and had to labor the whole race and eventually finished sixth. But in the second, he jumped to a good start, and after bouncing up and down with Vehkon en a n d H err ing , fin ish ed a co nse rva tive second. Van Doorn , who finished second in the firs t moto, was ano ther victim of th e heat and humidity in the second mo to and coul d on ly scrape up a 10th. American Rodney Smith, Suzuki, was a top contender early in bo th rnotos, but an ear infection th at was affect ing his bal an ce kept him out of a top placing. Smith earned j ust four points on the day a nd is tied for third place with Britain's Jeremy Whatley, who m issed the Venezuelan GP with an injured hip. Another American, R ick Ryan , rode consistently to place ninth overall, via a 11-8 tally. Sweden's Jorgen Ni lsso n, who rode his best race of the season after placing third in the first moto, was forced out of the second race when h is rear shock bro ke. This gave Kervella what he needed to claim second overall, his best overa ll finish of his career. Despite so-so starts in both motos, Kervella ended up going 4-3 for second. He 's tied for eigh th in points. . Roland Diepold, from Germany, seem ed to be headed to a third-place finish in th e first moto but twisted his foo t and dropped back to ninth. World Championship J25cc IfX Series: Round JJ Stijbos tops in Finnish GP KU O PI O , FINLAN D, AUG. 14 Finland's Dave Strijbos came one step closer in claiming h is second World Championship 125cc Series title after capturing the overa ll victory at the Fin nish G P. T he 21-year-old from Finland . no w holds a seven point lead over rival Je an-Michel Bayle, wh o finish ed second o verall via a 2-3 tall y. His win in Finland is Strijbos' 21st in his career. ' . . Even though Strijbos and Bayle were th e feature attraction, it was Holland's Pedro Tragter wh o stole th e show in the first moto, The Honda rider sped away from the pack and eventually finish ed over a minut ed ahead of his nearest competitor, which happened to be Bayle. Third p lace went to Strijbos, followed by American Mike Healey, piloting a Cagiva. Roundi ng out the top five was Finland's Mika Kou ki. The secon d moto was all Strijbos'. He jumped out to an ear ly lead with Healey in pursuit. Strijbos held a commanding lead the whole way with Hea ley hanging on for a second-place finish. Bayle suffered a poor sta rt and spent his entire moto weaving his way through the pack. He even tually finished third.
