Teams of speedway racers from
Denmark, Great Britain and Sweden
will join an American team in the
29th Annual World Team Cup at
Veterans Stadium in Long Beach ,
California, September 10. The event
will mark the second time the World
Team Cup has been held at Long
Beach. foIlowing a successful staging
of the World Championship competition in 1985that saw Denmark edge
the host Americans for the title.
Denmark has won five consective
World Team Cup Championships
and this year they'I1 be led by twotime defending Wor ld Champion
Hans Nielsen and Eric Gundersen,
the only rider in speedway history
to hold four World Championship
titles at the same time. Gunderson
won the individual and long track
titles, and was a member of the pairs
and team that won titles in 1984. Sam
Ermolen ko will head the American
squad , joined by Shawn an d Kelly
Moran, Lance King and reserve Rick
Miller. AIl five Americans compete
in the British Speedway League.
Bobby Schwartz, who is domi nating
the southern California speedway
scene, is noticeably absent, but word
has it he'll serve as co-manager of
the team. Tickets are priced at $25.

Ed Spertezel was killed in a street
bike accident in Morris, Illinois, on
Friday night, August 26. Spertezel,
22, was a Pro-Am dirt track
competitor.

Rick Johnson has signed a contract
which will keep him with Honda for
another three years. After competing
