Whiting (23) won LACR's 125cc and 250cc Pro races over Paul Vlach (4 6 ), who took third in the 125cc and second in the 250cc races. On lap three, Nicol a nd Hi cks were still go ing at each ot her with H icks riding .th e ra il an d Ni col ou tside. Nicol fo und the dri ve on lap three, shooting ahead of H icks as they came out of tum two , taking the lead ' for good. Hicks chased gamely but it was Nicol by a bike length at the en d. Joe Kelly ma de it exciting in the Divisio n Two main by racing through the pack for his victory. The high ha ndicapper Kell y worked past the other five riders before taking the lead and the win on the last la p . After Kelly ma de it past Bill Zirkl e, he shot af ter the leader Mark Squadrito. Sq uadrito ma naged to hold Kell y off for a lap , but when the whi te flag ci.ine out, Kelly blasted past for th e. win. Dave Worthen wo n th e Divi sion Three after an early battle with Brian Holland a n d Mike Zirkle. O nce Worthen took the lead it was all over as Worth en cra nked up an insurmountable lead to wi n going aw ay as Holland was able to hold off Zirkle for second. Results SCRATCH:. 1. Whi ting con tin ued hi s rise up the comeback trail at th e fin al round of the l Oth Annual IRC Motocross Series at LAC R, produced by CRC a n d co-s po nso re d b y Gran ada Yama ha. The former facto ry rider, now on a H on da and sponsored by Answer Prod ucts, easi ly won all four mo tos of the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. Paul Vlach took th e im media te lead in moto one of th e 125cc even t with Whiting second. Vla ch he ld Whiting at bay for one-a nd-a-half laps with J eff Barbacovi and Eri c Browne less th an a bike length away. In the mi ddl e of la p two, Whiting ma de a bid for the lead, tangled with Vlach and all four riders went down. Whiti ng was th e first to recover, too k off in the lead a nd wo n followed by Bar bacovi. Vlach DN F and Bro wn e fini shed third. ":hiti ng blew out of th e gate iri moto two , p ulled away, and wo n by a large margin. Vlach locked onto second and fru strated all attempts by Barbaco vi to move up. Barbacovi had the better overall total and took second to Vlach 's third. The same four were back in the 250cc event. Barbacovi grabbed the holeshot in moto o ne but R ic h Truchinski flew by in the third tum to take the lead. He was joined by Whiting. Vlach and Barbacovi were left to argue over fourth. Whiting took the lead for good near the end of lap two and T ruchinski went down, dropping far back. Barbacovi also got by Vlach in lap two to co n trol second. They finished in that order. Whiting too k the immediate . lead and the win in moto two while Vlach a nd Barbacovi swapped positions with Vlach finishing second overall this time. and Barb aco vi getting third. . The best battle of the day was in division one of the 125cc Nov ices betw een T ony Sulek and Ji mmy Cham berlin. Su lek won th e drag race fo r turn o ne in m oto o ne wi th Chamberlin on his back from th e start. Sulek h eld th e lead while Ch amb erl in was logging major air time in attem p ts to pass. Chamberl in wou ld close in, th en drop back, and re peat. H e m ade o ne more b ig ' attempt at the flag but Su lek ' beat him to th e checkered by a length. Chamb erl in grabbed the holesho t in rnoto two a nd it was Su lek's tu rn to search for openi ngs.
