Gray stars at Holeshot Hills Motocross By Susan Willian MIAM ITOWN, OH, J U LY 23 jason Gray landed the overall wi ns in the I25cc A and Schoolboy classes at H ol esh ot H ills MX. In the 125cc A class Chad Walker took a n earl y lead In moto o n e followed by Gray. T he pair zoomed arou nd the co u rse as G ra y stategically looked for a place to get by Wa lker. G ray fin all y made his move, laking the lead. Walker attempted to re pass Gray but Gray began pulling from Wa lker 's reach for the win followed by Wal ker a t th e fin ish line. G ra y do mi n ated m oto tw o as Wa lker landed another second. G ray went I- I in th e Schoolboy cl ass a fter Bill Bu rba , r u n n i ng seco nd, pulled fro m th e track for a DNF, putting j ason T actus seco nd . Robbie Sturgell , Adam Merrick , justin Phelps an d Gerald Howell, th e first four ri ders in the 80cc Senior class, piloted their machines around the course as Phelps jumped into second place past Merrick. Phelps closed the distance to Sturgell and looked for an opportunity to go by. Phelps finally got by Sturgell as Sturgell was slowed by a lapped rider. Phelps then stre tched his firstplace position over Sturgell. Meanwhile, Merrick , running third, ran off the track for a DNF, putting Howell into third. Merrick led from start to finish in moto two as Sturgell m oved into second followed by Phelps: Sturgell went down but was back underway, dropping to third as Phelps moved into second. Phelps took secon d with Sturgell third, putting Phelps fir st overall with a 1-2 score while Sturgell took second with a 2-3. In the 125cc B class Chris Donaldson and Roy Randleu were the early leaders. In the first lap of action, Donaldson overshot a tabletop jump to drop to 17th, putting Randlet t into the lead. Donaldson picked his' way up to third to hound secondplace Don Robinson , who used defensive strategy to hold off Donaldson for a short while until Donaldson moved into second. Donaldson was soon on the rear fender o f Randleu, who still held the lead. Lap after lap Randleu led with Donaldson chasing. Donaldson waited for Randleu to err and took over first at the finish with Randleu laking second. Donaldson returned in moto two for ' the win as Robert Hearth, who finished fourth in moto one, took second and Randleu took third. Results 250 C: 1. Stepli en Merlow (Yam); 2. Blanchard has been a regular winner in this sea so n's 250cc Expert class but h as been ru n ner- u p in 'th e Pro class to joe Good. Good suffered a n eck injury in a race on july 3 and will miss m ost of th e seaso n. Blanch ard used Good's absence to his advantage to win every moto be entered. ' Good's tea m m a te, Todd Haney, duel ed with Bl anchard In both cl asses but had to settle for seconds.
