The n ew ligh ts were a big hit with both racers and fans ali ke as a new era o f ni ght m o toc ross ra cing began in Las Vegas . Randy Reese topped th e Super Vets class, forracers 25-years-old -and-o ld er , wi th so me solid and cons isten t riding. Steve Abbott burned the h ol eshot to begin race o ne, but Reese, Glenn Warren a nd Rick An gelo were right behind h im. Warren made a quick move to pass Reese for seco nd a nd took off after Abbott. Steve co ntin ue d to lead th e race until ta ngling with a back marker la te in th e con test. Ba st began working on Finch, who momentaril y held him o ff, but wh en th ey co m p leted th e third lap, Bast was by for seco nd. Bast charged and when they h it the halfway poi nt was ca m ped o n the leader's rear tire. Lucero moved it back out on la p five but he cou ldn't get away from hi s . pursuer.
