LOUIS, IL, J ULY 17 Production raci ng ace Scott Ru ssell cleaned house a t Gatewa y International Ra ceway, winning $2100 in Suzuki contingency money by win ning the A, B and C Producti on races on hi s Dunlop/EBC/Team H ammer/ AGV / So lm ax/Kal-Ga rd/Va n son /Wa gn er /Cycl e Works/Fo x / Dyno-J et sponsored Suzukis. • T he event was marred by th e deat h of Ba ton Rou ge, Louisia na's J ohn T auzin. Tauzin was a n excelle nt club racer a nd was leading th e points in his region in the C Supe rbike class. The P roduction Money events were some of th e most inten se races o f the yea r. The w ildest racing happened in th e A and B'Production races. In A P roduction, Mike H art h p ut hi s big Suzuki o ut fro nt, fol lowed closely by Russell and J amie James. By the th ird lap, J ames forced ' his . way in fro nt of Russell to grab second. Fairin g s we re bangin g toge the r, th e big Suzukis were slid -. ing in every comer a nd th e riders were push ing to the edge of the trac k and then some exi ting th e turns. 1. Things really ' started to happe n when it began to rain. Russell 's "get it sideways" ri di ng style was perfectl y suited o n th e slick pavement, and when he made his move on J ames with just thre e laps to go, J ames slid ou t on th e sweeping turn seven. Russell went by H a rth in th e hardbraking turn one a nd held o n to win. James and Harth cras hed out in th e B Producti on race when J ames tri ed to pass seco nd place Kurt H all on th e inside of a turn. " I went undern ea th H all thinking he wo uld ta ke a normal lin e a couple of feet o ut ," J ames said. " But he ca me down to the grass leaving me no where to go." Ritch y was going after McCann as McCullough was reco ve ring from a bad start. ' Ritchy was trying to get by McCa nn but was under pressu re from Mike Laza no. On lap five McC ull ough ta ngled with Kevin Jones and both riders went down. McCull ough had a bent p ipe which burned through hi s gas tank, end ing th e race for h im . At the sa me time Laza no passed Ritchy and went aft er McCa nn . Lazano pressured McCa nn for the last two laps but McCann never made a m istak e a nd took the overall win with hi s 2-1 score.
