Ferrell quickly took th ird a way fro m Bro wn but he parked in turn four on th e first lap and Bro wn slid by on the ins ide line. Lucero, riding a Godden, took a look o n the outside of Bast at th e end of th e openi ng orbi t, but Bast kept the lead and slow ly inched away from the pack. When the checkered came down , it was Bast with room to spare over Lucero, Brown and Ferrell. In th e Handicap main T ony Bienert a nd Bernie Tursko butted head s for th e point position while Brad Oxley took th ird from Jim Fishback o n lap two. Oxley charged a t th e halfwa y point and b y the end o f th e fifth revolution he was on Tusko 's rea r tir e. After a crash in hi s semi, Kossuth ca me off th e po le with th e lead in th e main on th e NGK/ Arai GM but he had J im Fishback. teve Lucero and Brad Oxley in tow , Oxley made it as far as turn two before he was cro wded wide and fell against th e ou tsid e boards. Fish back eyed th e o u tside early in the event but he co uld n ' t mak e the rear tire hook up. Lucero took over th e second spot on lap two but like Fishback he cou ldn 't locat e th e fast line a nd when th e check ered came down, a j ubi lant Kossuth had th e victory. Rich ard Perkins came into the eig h t-la p H and ica p main undefea ted a nd steered hi s new Weslak e to the poi nt wh en the event go t underw ay. St eve R ussell and Doug Bowers stayed glued 10 Perkins rear fender in the early go ing. Fishback moved by Archie Perez and Bowers before the fin ish o f the opening circui t, which pu t h im in third. Gary Hicks q uickly followed him th ro ugh fo r th e fourth positi on. Tomm y H ayden went 10 th e front of th e 80cc class a lso and ran o ff eigh t perfect laps to tak e th e win , John Sh err ard kept him close in his second pl ace rid e.
