Ingels, aboard his Peteri ch Cycles/ A&A Racing/Quaker State/ K&N Fi 1ter s /Ch am pi on /Si erra /B e 11 sponsored G-M , picked up valuable AMA points and moved so lidly in to third behind Sisem ore and J ohn H ouston with hi s win. The points cutoff was this weekend wi th th e top five rid ers qual ifying for the AMA Series qualifying rounds. Ingels was off first in the Scratch main while Mik e Solis and Mike Parsons battled through th e first tu rn , leaving Sisemore on th e ou tside lookin g for an o pening. After a lap Parsons and Solis were still goi ng a t it as Ingels pulled farther a hea d. Parsons pulled a head of Sol is down the bac k ch ute and Sisemore flew past Solis a nd went after Parsons. On the last lap Sisemore slipped past Parsons for second . In gels won goi n g away with Sisemore a distant seco nd, Parsons third a nd Solis four th. Inge ls a nd Sisemore were kept at bay for most of th e race by Rob ert Curry.'Reppert, once pa st the falle n Solis, shot after Venegas and a t th e halfway mark was hounding th e leader. Venegas hung in the groove though, not allowing Rep pert the opening needed to sli p pas t. Sisemore fin all y blasted ' pas t Cu rry to move in to third. J ones NAPA, CA, J ULY 16 Eddie Ingels sliced o u t of ga te two for a victory in th e Scratch main at Napa Speedway while Mike Solis held off the ch argi ng J im Sisemore for th e H andicap main win. Harlan Bast J r. h ad th e ' pole position in th e Scratch main but Ingels beat everyone to th e turn with a no the r of hi s holesh ots. Jim Sisemore was caugh t sleeping and was fourth comi ng o ut of turn two, then hooked up and roc keted past Bast a nd Pa ul Orlandi into second behind Ingels. In gels , sponsored by A&A Racing / P et er ich CYcl es/Quaker/ Ch ampion/Sierra/Bell , could not be caugh t and all eyes turned to th e Bast a nd Orlandi duel. With Orlandi stay ing on th e ou tside both riders stayed even. On th e last lap Bast .moved ahead to fini sh third behind Sisem ore. A tangle between Da ve Faria and Brian Pecore called an earl y end to th e Handicap m a i n with Solis , sponsored by So lis Ra cing, coming ou t on top. Pecore was the early leader as Solis tracked him down and passed him on th e third lap . As Pecore sta rted to fade Si semore worked up to pass Du ane Yarrow and pu lled in behind Solis. Sol is was doing a great job of keeping Sisemore a t bay wh en Faria a nd Pecore bum ped as Faria ·mo ved into thi rd ahea d of Yarrow. Paul Bray, o n his Suzuki GSXRlIOO, ga ve chase after working hi s way through half th e pack, but settled for second, 50 seconds behind. Shaw hung on for third a nd Gl enn Barry rode hi s Suzuki GSXR750 to fourth , foll o wed by Paul Sc h we mmer o f Da yton a on hi s Yamaha FZ750. Greg Esser of Pompano rode his H onda RS250 wire-to-wire in th e GTU 50-Miler, foll ow ed by Gl enn Ca rlson on a Honda. Carlson mad e the event a race as he a nd Esser were half-a -Iap a h ea d o f third -place H onda rider Mike Barnes. Carlson h ad troubl e with th e midran ge power on hi s Hurricane which kept him from being able to pass Esser. The big battle was from fourth pl ace back as Gainesville rider Bill Beesch exchanged places with J ohn Ch oat e a nd his Honda-CBR600 Hurricane. Mark Pastir made it a three-way battle a t th e halfway po int. At the flag it was Esser, Carlson, Barnes, Beesch , Ch oat e and Pastir. Kevin Blais of North Miami rode his freshly-broken- in Kawasaki 750 Ninja, sponsor ed by Florida Bail . Bonds, to a convinc ing victory in the H eavyweight Su perbike feature. In th ird pl ace on lap two , he pa ssed Paul Schwemmer a nd Mark Walsh for the lead and never look ed back. Wal sh battled wi th Sch wemmer for second a nd was a bike length ahead a t the chec kers. Choate was fourth and Shaw fifth. J ohn Costa led th e Novice class to th e fla g, taking eig hth pl ace overa ll in th e combined event. Costa is showing some real pro mi se; th e Grand Prix Cyclesspo nsored rid er is very co nsistent and definitel y someone to watch a t Daytona in October. In th e $ 1000 Shoot-O ut, it was Kell y coming hom e first. Sha w, still battling a n electrical grem lin, led th e first lap, but Kell y a nd Bray quickl y went by for first and second. Kell y pu lled ou t a five-second advantage over Bra y a t the line. Blai s foll owed bo th riders hopin g so meo ne would ma ke a small m istake th at would let him by, but no lu ck. Trying to clo se th e gap o n him was Ocal a's ow n T .]. Brantley. In third was a Suzuki powered by Bobb y Moriarty. Fourth featured a du el betw een Scott Krause and Ben Sanders. .Coming up from a sixth- p lace sta rt , to fourth by lap two, was Robbie Gl enn. On th e fourth lap, Moriarty was trying to narrow th e gap on Brantley wh en th e wind went o ut of hi s sail s and hi s luck changed dramaticall y as he found himself down in a bo u t l Sth positi on. Gl enn, Sanders a nd Krause were locked in to a tight battle for third. Wi th th e c hec ke red fl ag o u t, McCl ain was satisfied with a clea rcut win while Brantley wasn 't too far behind. Fighting for th ird were Gl enn a nd Sanders. Bingham closed u p in fifth. The . seco n d moto wa s agai n McClain from start to fini sh. Sanders a nd Brantley were locked into a tight battle for second while fourth place also saw a battle, between Glenn a nd J esse Forrs. Sanders' Kawasaki edged ou t Forrs' Suzuki for fourth. Gl enn lost it in th e next lap, dropping to eighth. e T he next few laps sa w Brantley in hot pursu it of McCl ain. Lapped riders soon gave McClain th e advantag e he needed a nd he pulled away a safe di stance. As the chec kered flag came o ut, McClain had sewn up th e 15-24 win. Brantley was second and Sanders pulled in for third. Gl enn a nd Kyle Myers came in fourth a na fifth. Myers had wo rked hard play ing ca tch u p after a 10th place start.
