00 00 O"l ~ On July 2, 1988, the oldest motorcycle dealership in the Louisville, Kentucky, metro area closed its doo rs for the last time after 26 years of opera tion. The Green rose Honda store, owned by John Greenrose, was the center for many of the area 's top riders, including visits by Dick Mann an d Bubba Shober t. G reen ro se represented the U.S. in the ISDT on a factory T riumph in 1972. Kevin Reese has been appointed Sales Manager for Edgell Expositions' motorcycle shows for the West Coast division. Edgell Expositions' West Coast Division produces e ight motorcycle shows and has announced its end of 1988 and 1989 motorcycle and ATV expos schedule. The events will be open to the public and inc lude Anaheim, California , December 2-4, 1988; Boston, Massachusetts. Janurary 6-8, 1989; Daytona Beach, Florida, March 9-11 and Houston, Texas, (a combination trade and consumer show), February 3 -5. The schedule for motorcycle expos for the trade, include Cincinnati, Ohio, February 25-27, and the International ' Motorcycle Aftermarket Expo in Reno, Nevada, September 9-11 . On T hursday, J ul y 21, at 8:00 a.rn., the California Off-H ighway Motor Vehicle Recrea tion Commission 's G ran ts a n d Co oper a ti ve Ag reemerits/Trails Committee will hear p roject sta tus reports from Lassen, Mendocino, Klam ath and Plumas National Forests, and the Bureau of Land Man agement's Ukia h District, in the Resou rces Building Audi tori um, 1416 Ninth Street in Sacramento. T he Ohio Vall ey Speedway in Parkerburg, West Virginia, will not be able to complete the req uired and necessary repa ir s to th eir raci ng facility in time for the scheduled Ju ly 17, AMRA - Pros Dirt Track event. The lack of time to relocate the cha mpionsh ip dirt track race has, therefore, forced its cancela tion. 2 Re lia ble sources are saying t ha t Tea m S uzuki's Johnny O'Mara will be packing his bags for Europe to campaign the final two rounds of the World Championship 125cc MX Series in Finland, August 24, and Switzerland, August 28. Team Suzuki's Ronn ie TIchenor, who fell heavily over a double jump and had to be carried off the track on a stretcher at the Red Bud 125cc National in Buchanan, Michigan, July 3 , is doing fine and was on the track at the Binghamton, New York, National June 10. "This is the first day I've really felt good," TIchenor said at Binghamton. TIchenor was feared to have suffered a lower back injury, but, as it turned out, his main injury in the crash was to his already injured shoulder, which he separated at the beginning of the season. T eam Kawasaki 's Jeff Ward will be on hand to sign au tographs and to give racing tips to riders and spectators at th e Po nca Ci ty Grand National Championships in Pon ca City, Oklahoma, Saturday and Sun: day, August 6-7. Ward will also take a few lap s around the Ponca Ci ty track, introducin g Kawasaki's 1989 lin eup of KX motocrossers. 'Kawasaki IS pl anning a cont est where a few winn ers will get a cha nce to ride the-new KXs around the track . Australian road racer Paul "The Angry Ant" Lewis commenting on his first vis it to Laguna Seca: "I'm going good on the road race part of the track, but I'm not used to the motocross part, yet." He was also heard saying that Pro Twins GP winner Dale Quarterley was faster over "the jump," referring. of course, to the infamous corkscrew. Lewis is hoping to race the GP circuit next year, but if a deal doesn't come together, he hopes to race full time in America. He is planning on racing the August 7 Mid -Ohio round of the Pro Twins Championship. Veteran David Aldan a on hi s first race at the " new" Laguna Seca: " It rem ind s me of On tario," he said of the added infield sectio n. " It 's hard to see the corne rs. I like the old track better. " Aldana rode a Wood -Rotax in the 250 GP race, finis hi ng 15th. I Ron Wood has finally gone int o production on his Wood-Rotax 600cc single-cylinder road racer, and recently shipped the first one air-freight to a customer in: iro nica lly, Westerville, Ohio. Westerville , for those who don 't already know, is the home of the AMA. Rock superstar Michael Jackson recently took del ivery of a Team Pepsi Suzuki GP replica street bike, a Gamma 500, in Europe. Team Pepsi Suzuki racers Kevin Schwantz and Rob McElnea caught Jackson in concert in Italy. Schwantz said, "He is bad!" right leg and is now recovering at home. It was the only National that Kocinski did n' t fin ish - or win, for tha t ma tter. CO RRECTION: T he resu lts in last week's Mammoth MX story listed Will y Simo ns as fin ishing eigh th in the 500cc Expert class. Simo ns, who bro ke his back in a May 28 practice crash, sold his entry to Russ Wageman (KT M), who was the actua l eigh th-p lace fini sher. Simons is curre ntly resting in a back brace at hom e and said, ''I'm just starting to get up and aro u nd with a wal ker." Yoshimura Suzuki's Doug Polen said he will continue to race in the AMA/Supersport by Vance & Hines Series this season . Last month, Yoshimura considered pulling the Texan out so he could avoid risk ing an injury in the 600 and 750cc Supersport classes and concentrate on Superbike racing . At Loudon in June, Yoshimura d id not even bring Po len's GSXR750 Supersport machine. All of his bikes were ready to ride at Laguna Seca, however. "I just decided that I wanted to win them all," Polen said. "I 'm in the po ints le a d (in all three classes). Why stop now?" Block broke both wrists and his Some 35,000 mo torcyclists partici pated in Harl ey-Davidson's Milwaukee Ride for the Muscular Dystrophy Associa tion (MDA), rai sin g more than 500,000 for the fight against muscle diseases, June 10-18. Motor- cyclists rode from all over North America to Mil waukee, Wiscon sin, to help Harley-Davidson celebra te its 85th anniversary an d to raise mon ey for MDA. Team Obsolete's Dave Roper will be a busy man come the second week of September. Roper plans to ride a Matchless G50 in the Classic Ma nx GP on the Isle of Ma n , the n fl y to S teamboat Springs, " C o lo ra d o , to race another G50 and the ex-D ick Mann BSA Rocket 3 through the streets of the sk i resort town.
