n scorching conditions and following a near
five-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pan-
demic, MotoGP finally roared back into life
at the 2020 Spanish MotoGP at Circuito de
Jerez – Ángel Nieto.
The weekend saw a first-time winner in
Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha)
who took a lap-record pole position on Satur-
day and rode a commanding race after taking
the lead from Maverick Vinales (Monster
Energy Yamaha) at one-third race distance.
However, it was Marc Marquez who made
the headlines at Jerez for good and bad rea-
sons. The Repsol Honda man was pushing
the leading pace when on lap five he made
yet another incredible save, this one at the
ultra-fast Turn Four. He rejoined in 16th and
proceeded to put on a riding clinic, scything
past his rivals and making his way back up
to third place in one of the great come-from-
behind rides of all time.

and it was one we'll be talking
about for a very long time
