Miller mauls at Morgan County ST By Dave Hoenig JACKSONVILLE, IL, MAY 27 The AMRA Pros " World Championship" dirt track series swu ng into Ill inois for rounds four and five on Memorial Day weekend and the' tigh t-ban ked short track of the Morgan County Fairgrounds was th e site of the opener. David Miller and Ch arlie Orr battled in th e Heavyweight class until lap 10 when Orr, who had lost hi s steel shoe on th e second lap, charged into turn one in side Miller, only to run out of room ' and was forced to slide down. Orr was up quickly but back in eigh th . Mill er brought his H onda home in front of Kris Kiser. . The Heavyweight ' class featured outstanding racing all night. The first heat saw Miller leading all the way over . Audie Huff a nd Dave Rabinette into the main. The second heat belonged to Orr. Dave Damrorn held down second until the last lap · wh en Kiser slipped by. Roger Durkee and Mark Gruber won th e two sem is. In the main Miller and Orr dueled over the lead . Rob Dam ron, Kiser, Rab inette a nd Audie Huff wer e bunch ed tightly behind. At the halfway mark it was Orr, Miller, Damron, Kiser, Mark Gruber and Huff lead ing the way. O rr led laps six and eigh t but Mill er was back in front o n la p 10 when Orr ended hi s charge in turn one. Miller looked to be home free but Kiser was soon ni pping at hi s back tire br in ging Dam ron and Gru ber with him. T he order stayed th e same to th e end. In the Li ghtweight class only four were left running a t the end of th e day. Roger Durkee powe red his R.E. Carl son/Hariss Ra cing H onda to a wir e-to-wire win over heat-winner Tim Hai ght. Sayles bags Pit-Stop MX By Jenny Bayles PERRY, OK, J U NE 4 H onda rid er Steve Bayles too k th e overall win in th e 250cc Expert class ·at Pit-Stop Speedway. T he first-m oto actio n saw Bayles snatch th e holeshot foll owed closel y by Robbie Clauss and Brett Shumat e. By the second lap, Sh uma te passed Clauss and was movin g in on th e leader. Sh uma te took the insid e line in a corne r and mo tored into first with Bayles close beh ind, foll ow ed by Clauss. Clauss wen t down over some sma ll jumps, allo wi ng Suzuki 's Dan e Hillery to take over third po sition. Shumate pulled a big lead and went on to take the checkered flag with Bayl es settling for second and H ill ery fini sh ing third. Ji m Chest er and Steve Childress battled in both Pro divisions and ' came away with a class win each. At th e two previou s events here, th e race was run on a virgin, grass surface. For this event , however, th e - co urse was pl owed and sawd ust was added, crea tin g better berms and more traction. Over 120 en tr ies, representing six states, were on hand for th e Gear /Oury-sponsored race. Steve Ratliff holeshot the open ing l25cc C rnoto but Bare Brothersbacked Pulla n charged into th e lead on lap two and the pair battled until th e final two laps of th e six-lap moto wh en Pullan took control for th e win over Ratliff. _ Bill David , wh o had crashed from third position and finished eighth in mota one , was Pullan's challe nger in mota two. Pullan kept a firm grip on the lead, heading Davis all the wa y to th e finish. Pullan's win advanced him to second in the seri es, j ust two poin ts behind leade r Alan Sparks. Sparks posted 3-3 and second overall for th e da y over Ratl iff's 24. Davi s' 8-2 ' was good for fifth beh ind Tony Smith. Suzuki -m ounted Tod d Parker romped to both Sen ior Mini rnoto wins whil e Lore n William s and R yan McCann waged a back-andforth war a ll day for ru n ner-up honors. Edge ANCHORAGE , AK, MAY 22 T en mo tos in both th e Pro and l25cc Expert classes is Suzuki-Arctic Cat Mot orsports-backed J oe Good 's win streak total as he has been th e king of Kincaid Park at every Alaska Motorcycle Racing Association motocross this seaso n , and today was no different. The l25cc Expert class was a . cakewalk for Good as he flew easily to both moto wins. Kawasaki of Anchorage teammates Mike Guthrie and Greg Chatterton split second pl ace with Chatterton's 2-3 garnering him second overall. Guthrie placed third with a 5-2. Both motos of the Pro clas s went to Good while Ralph Blanchard
