Miller was victorious in this round. but he biter lost to Pfetzing in a runoff for second overall. Sam Ermolenk o easily qualified t o race overseas next month. against riders advancing from t he Commonwealth Speedway Fina l. lap of the ni ght. Four seconds away from a celebration, his GM motor grenaded with such intensity' that it blew his ignition out of the bike. Correy watched as the field zipped by with Randy Gre en posting the win. "One turn to go ," Correy said. "I felt like crying in the infield. " Pfetzing ~aranteed his spot in the Overseas Fmal when he narrowly held off the charging King in event 18. Faria booked his passage by winning event 19 over Shawn and Kelly,Moran. Kelly, the elder of the racing brothers, realizing that he wasn 't going to score enough points ' to qualify, moved ' out of Shawn's way in the final bend to to give him a sho t at Faria. It didn't work. The final heat matched Miller, Schwartz and Ermolenko. If Miller finished one spot ahead of Ermolenko, they would have a runoff for the crown. Schwartz and Miller led off the lin e with Ermolenko, on th e Shoei l GTS/Pacifi c Coast Laminatingl K&N/Pick Your Pan-sponsored GM trying the inside. They fought back but Ermolenko was determined to get through. He went to the dirt and got by Miller as they exited turn two on th e second circuit. That would give him the overall win in the meeting but he was also after th e perfe ct score. He tried inside of Schwartz go ing down the back straight on lap three but couldn't get the job done. He quickly went outside and wh en th e white flag carne out, he narrowly raced ahead. One lap later Ermolenko took the checkered and he had his perfect night. . " I knew I had to beat R icky (Miller) in my last race to win the meeting, " Ermolenko said. " I .attacked for the first lap or so and then I kicked back a bit. Pfetzing and Miller staged a runoff for second and Pfetzing, off of gate five, led it all. "There was so much pressure leading up to tonight;" Pfetzing said. " I wanted it even more this year than I did last. I had a lot more intensity. I started thinking about this three or four days ago and everything worked out just the way we wanted." "It went great for me up unti l the last couple of races ," Miller said. " I am happy to qualify. I had a good runoff wi th .Rob. It is the first time I have been in a runoff for a position other than the last transfer spot. " The next round will be staged at Miller's horne tra ck. " It is a big advantage," he said. " That is wh y I am so determined to make it this year." Ermolenko was the winner for th e second consecutive year.
