It was more of the same in Open class racing with Holto n aga in taki ng the holesh o t and leading every lap of both heat s with Mark Jackson on a Honda taking second. Enduro class action was close with Grady J.ones taking th e early lead with MIke Shaver on a KT M directl y behind. A crash which bl ocked the track, however, brought ou t th e red flag and a restart of th e heat. Again J ones' Husky four-strok e took the holeshot with Mike Shaver and Jacki e Davis pushing him through turn one. Jones oversho t a berm after jum p ing a tabletop a bit too far, giving Shaver th e lead and the first mota win. Jones was a ble to regroup and tak e second with KTM of Athens-backed Davis bringing in third. . Mota two had Sh aver in front at th e start with Jones, Davis a nd Junior Akins, also on a KTM , close .behind. Davis cro wded J on es in a . tight corner and slip ped under to pass. Akins then got by Jones on a downh ill to take third. By virtue of his 1-1 score Shaver took the overall with Davis getting second, Jones third, Akins fourth a nd Mik e Baker taking fifth. Diem was undefeated tonight winning all five of hi s heat races and each of the four main event races. The mains were fill ed wit h co ntroversy as J ohn Lew is and George La zor, two of the four q ua lifiers, were disqualified by referee Do n Hawk in s. Before the main event , H awkins made a pass through the pits. H e came back to the starting line and a nnou nced th e di squali ficati on of Lewis for a tir e infraction. Lewis stormed th e tra ck a nd wanted to know wh at th e problem was and wh y he was singled out. T he referee returned to the pits to look over o ther machines.
