Es'inger aces Centra' ~~ RACING II'inois ST' By Bill Holt NEOGA, IL, MAY 29-30 Les Eslinger blew to the front and never looked back in both of the Senior finals run at the Central Illinois . M /C clubgrounds on Memorial Day weekend. Eslinger : beat a large group of experienced riders both days. Sunday it was Dave Sta nfield in his best ride of the year in second and on Monday Gary Bren nan held off Rick Hardesty for the second spot. The wins in the 50cc finals were sp lit between Shannon Wright on Su nday and Ra ndy Smith on Monday. Smith took the second spot on the first day with Shane Garrison finishing there on Monday in front of Wright. Steve Hall and his Prairie Cycle Honda blew the big lead on Su nday in the Mini class with a sour motor in the late laps to Shane Garrison but had things working well on "Monday to beat Chad Gray and Garrison for the win. David Allen on the Pierce's Cycle Yamaha and Butler provided so m e of th e best racing of the weekend in the l25cc class. They had a lead-swap p ing battle on both days with Allen taking the win on day one and then slipping out on the fourth turn of the final lap on day two, giving the win to Butler. Dave Stanfield garnered third both days as did Roger Arnold in fourth . .T he 200s put on their own show both days but it was the Collier's Cycle Shop Suzuki of Matt Collier beating Vogel for the win both days over Marvin Long and Greg Pickens. Doni Holeman and the Bertilino P ro d u ce Special fought off Da n Carter and the Suzuka/Blendzoil Honda for the win on Sunday in the 250cc class but a lowside get-off on the fourth turn of the second lap put Holeman out of con tention on Monday and sent Eric Eschmeyer to the hospital. When the race was restarted Carter shot out to a big . lead leaving Dwayne Crockett to edge out DC Cycle Pilot Dana McNeil for the second spot with David Allen finally getting his bike running well enough to finish in fourth. Bobby Collier held off Gary Brennan and Greg Calley for the top spot in the 400cc class on both days. Reed Berti lino on the Bertilino Pro d uce W-R a nd R ick Knuth and h is J oe Evans/ Gene Kn uth/Team DC Cycle Rotax battled on both days . Bertilino found h imself keeping the heat on for the duration on Sunday and was rewarded by a rare miscue by Kn uth coming into the firs t turn for the final time. Knuth tangled with a slower rider and Bertilino ........ .
