"Riders might not realize they can still get involved." said KK spokesman and former Grand National Champion Gary Scott. "Maybe that's because we got the program started a little late. but they can still get involved ." Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, will host a round of the AHRMA Historic Cup Series on Saturday, July 9, in conjunction with the AMA National Championshi p Road Race Series meet which takes place July 9-10. The Lag una Seca event wi ll be the sixth round of the Nationa l series for classic motorcycles. Participa tion is by preen try only; entries are available from AHRMA , Laguna '88, 5360 SR 229 E., Marengo. OH 43334. Deadline for entries is June 25. The May 30-June 10 Isle of Man road race meet has drawn 875 entries. just one short of the record of 876 which were received in 1986. Although no U.S. riders are entered in this year's Isle of Man races, riders from 21 different countries have entered. Nineteen former winners with 46 victories among them have entered. led by 10-time Isle of Man winner Joey Dunlop. The machines which dominate the entry are Yamaha with 246. Suzuki with 229 and Honda with 164. The only other manufacturer to reach double figures is Kawasaki with 49. April 24. will not be rescheduled. according to AMA's Roger Ansel. There will be a total of 11 series events with the riders' best nine finishes counting in the final point . standings. The Cadwell , Idaho, rou nd of the AMA Na tiona l Championship Hare & Hound Series that was canceled May 15 due to dry weathe r condi tions, has been rescheduled and will run August 21 in Nevada. The race wi ll start in Well s and end in Jackpot. . The Trans-Amazon Rally which began in Cartagena. Columbia. South America. April 22. and finished 8500 miles later in Buenos Aires. Argentina, May 17. was won by British West Indies rider Rob Shirley (Kaw). Despite breaking a finger and ribs in the rally. Shirley piloted his Dick Burleson Sports-prepped KLR650 to a narrow victory over Robin Bennett (KTM). Bennett crossed the finish line with a broken shoulder. Nine motorcyles started the event and only Shirley and Bennett officially finished. A number of fatalities marred the event. but all occured in the car division. A team from Chile reportedly lost three drivers when their car plunged down a 2000 foot cliff. and another car and its crew are still missing and are feared to have been buried by a rock slide. A team of two women drivers from Japan rolled their car on the final day; one is in critical condition. while the other continued on and finished the event.
