Ward tops Washougal GoldStarMX By Brian Barnes WASHO UGAL, WA, MAY B Snohomish , Was hingto n 's , Larry Ward made a triumphant return to th e Northwest racin g scene after his recent top-f ive finish at th e Axto n , Virginia, 125cc National. Ward took 'al l fou r rnoto wins in th e 125 and 250cc Pro classes at the fifth ra ce of the CMC Gol d St a r Series a t Washougal Mot ocross Park, Ward, aboard Yamaha sup port! Hi-Point/Smith G oggles and Devol Engineering-backed Yamahas p u t in sterling rides in both 125 and 250cc classes to take overall wins, while Honda of Roseburg 's Tony Graves and Ulven Forging's Gary Beyer were th e second and third overall riders in the 125cc bout, and Graves again kept Ward in his sights to ' clai m second overall in th e 250s. A strong contin gen t of Amat eurs showed up for today's race with some excelle nt racing taking p lace. The BOcc Beginner class had severa l riders in contention for th e overa ll win. Mike Scott, on a Suzuki, scored th e first moto wi n afte r Vylam Ng uyen, , Corey Down ing, Ben La ne and Brad Jevons all put on a good battle for the next four spots. Ng uyen bailed while running in second spot with j evon s, Lane and Ch ad Franklin rounding out the top five. -T h e seco nd m o to found Scott, La ne , R andy Wr i ght a n d Ben Rhodes up front as th e riders completed lap one, but this time it was Rhodes who pu t on an outstandi ng ride to take the win. T he next two spots would determinethe overall as Scott and La ne went at it. Lane held .off Scott to ta ke second in th e moto, but it was Scott who got th e overall wi n via h is 1-3 performance. Bob While. : Pittman sweeps Suzuki money at PIR RR By Russ Cazier PORTLAND, OR, MAY 15 J oe Pittman rode Suzuki GSXRs to wi ns in th e Open, 750cc and 600cc P roduction classes at th e Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association's second meet of the year a t Portland International Ra ceway. Pittman, who had bl isters on his righ t foot fro m an accident in the Bruce Lind (78) leads Joe Pittman (171) through turn nine at PIR. Pittman won the Open. 750 and 600 Production classes. previous day's endurance race, had closely contested races in 750cc and 600c c P ro du ctio n , ba ttl i n g with Craig Trinder to the fla g in the 750cc race and Shawn Roberti in th e 600cc. Keith Pinkstaff's mechanical DN F in Open P rod uction gave Pittman an easy win th ere, but he had a good lead anyway. Pinksta ff, thoroughly bugged after his 1100 q u i t two laps short of $400, came back out in 750cc Superbike, go t a great holeshot and flat ra n away wi th the race. Form ul a One, how ever, was not the usual Pinkstaff benefit, since Kurt H all of the 6-Hour winning H u m an Race T ea m stayed over a nothe r day to run h is Yamaha ' FZIOOOR in that class. H all eased away from the pack, and the best racing in Formu la O newas between Eric Garland a nd Steve Li ttl ejohn, both also FZIOO OR-mounted. Kell y Andris' luck is ru nni ng strong as th e Yamaha rider grabbed yet ano ther win in the hotly contested O p en P r o class at t he C MCsanctioned mo tocross at Baylands. T he two rno to wins for Andris and his Hi -Point/ Ara i/ Pro-Circuit/ Torco/Wrigh t Mo tors-sponsored YZ were not easily attained. At the ga te drop of each mo to it was an explosive Co nley out in fron t wi th Craig Porter and Clayto n Blood as side-kicks. By the second la p in eac h mo to Andris had made up for his lack lus ter starts and dropped in behind Conley.
