Rookie Expert Mike Sm ith p roved h e's a
force to be reckoned with on his horne circuit
as he narrowly edged Doug Polen and David
Sadowski to win the 600cc Supersport final
at Road Atlanta.

last year's 600ccclass supremo Polen ,
and his Yoshimura-prepared Suzuki.
Sadowski 'm a n aged to nip local
favorite Scott Russell at the finish
line after the four top guns had raced
together for th e entire distance. The
600cc final was perhaps the most
exciting race of the weekend at the
scen ic facility.
Smith's Honda survived a postrace teardown after Sadowski put
forth th e $ 100 protest money.
" T hat's my ~eneral rule -Io r th e
year," Sadowski boasted lat er. " If a
Honda finishes ahead of me , I'll
protest just to be a good guy for
Suzuki. "
